We stayed at the Scotsman Inn for one night and had a great experience! Sandy & Cathy are very friendly + had great recommendations. We got a free upgrade and our room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The whole inn is gorgeous! The highlight of our stay was definitely breakfast served by Sandy in his kilt :) 

Gorgeous Inn, Great People

Our experience began when we arrived and checked in with Sandy. He was very welcoming and showed us around. Our room was very nice with a huge, high bed! We loved that the hotel was so close to the water. 

Sandy gave us a great recommendation for dinner and it was fabulous! Best meal we had during our whole time in Nova Scotia. He also suggested more scenic routes for our travels. 

Breakfast was a wonderful experience - hearing stories from Sandy and meeting our fellow guests including a newly wed couple and a couple celebrating their anniversary. The croissant were delicious!!

If I'm ever back in Pictou or hear of anyone going there, I'll recommend the Scotsman Inn. 

A welcoming stay

My husband and I had a great stay at the Scotsman Inn in August.  Each room is beautifully appointed with period furniture and comfortable beds.  The hotel is spotlessly clean and Sandy Best, the genial host, makes sure that all the guests are welcomed and made to feel part of the family.  And he serves breakfast in a Scottish kilt.  A memorable stay!

A Great Stay at the Scotsman Inn

The Scotsman Inn is a very charming, comfortable, and cozy place to stay.   Sandy & Cathy, our hosts, were warm and welcoming.  If you are looking for a quiet, lovely place, you will find it at the Scotsman Inn.  If asked, Sandy can provide you with info on what to see, how to get there, and great places to eat.   There is plenty to see and do in Pictou County.

Our best stop on our journey

We were thoroughly impressed with this inn. Sandy and Cathy made us feel like guests in their own home. The rooms were immaculate, I felt bad wearing my shoes inside. Speaking of shoes, on one of our hikes I stepped in a mud puddle, upon returning to the inn, Sandy offered to wash it for me! Now that is above and beyond customer service. Sandy made recommendations on daily excursions and all were fantastic. They also gave us restaurant recommendations and called ahead to make reservations. I highly recommend this inn but if you are  looking for a typical hotel, this is not it. It is and old building, beautifully restored, but no elevator. Sandy and his wife,Cathy, do it all…cooking, cleaning, and guest check in. Thank you for making our trip to Nova Scotia so special.

Perfect Bed and Breakfast 

We decided on an overnight stay here on our way from Ingonish to Hopewell Rocks.Initially it was the town that appealed as following Battle of Culledon in 1745 and Jacobite loss there was a Scottish diaspora and they landed in Pictou on board "Herbert" in 1873 here and thus the name Nova Scotia.Travel unravels knowledge and it was our five week stay in Scotland from late May which prompted this to understand the historical context.We also knew that Covid and recent hurricane had ravaged the town's prosperity but this did not daunt us.But it was also Scotsman Inn that dream us to this part of Nova Scotia.Built in 1865 the facade was unusual as it was by no means victorian
But there was another appeal.Its owner Sandy from the reviews was quite a character.
The Scotsman Inn is a very special place - it is true to its heritage in its decor and furnishings.
Importantly for an overnight stay the priority was comfortable mattress pillows and quality bed linen and. it more than met our expectations.
We were fortunate to have wonderful conversations with Sandy and Kathy.Sandy has had and still has an extraordinary eventful life of travel and activities to all corners of the earth as well as work experience.I was enthralled by the restaurant they ran in Tonga and as an avid scuba diver myself listened intently to his marine adventures.This was unexpected but deeply appreciated.
The Scotsman Inn is entirely hands on with Sandy and Kathy and that is what makes it so special notwithstanding Sandy serving breakfast in a kilt (no bagpipes!!)

Very special overnight stay

Our stay at the Scotsman Inn was lovely.  This B&B is impeccably clean.  The rooms are well appointed.  Enjoyed our conversations with our hosts  on the back deck.  Lovely spot to sit out on in the evening or morning.  A light breakfast with fresh fruit was served in the beautiful dining room.  I would recommend staying at this B&B.

We both really liked the quality and elegance  of our room's decor. The quality of bedding is exemplary. The mattress was firm and fantastic for the way we like to sleep.

The host, Sandy, is prompt and jovial, and his wife, Kathy, is in constant motion to provide upkeep and friendliness.
 
The Breakfast Dining Room is large,  and  it has very tasteful Decor of antiques and historical wall hangings. The Breakfast Table is set elegantly and welcoming. Continental Breakfast is served by Sandy, and he is wearing his Tartan Colors Kilt and special Belt and Buckle.
 Sandy serves the Breakfast in a gracious formal manner, yet the friendliness of conversations among guests with Sandy is quite enjoyable.

Every aspect of the Interior is fresh and new. The flooring and stairs are  polished and bright, the walls of every room and the corridors are freshly painted, and there is a calming feeling to the entire Interior.

Classic Elegance with Smiles and Expansive Advice for a Pleasurable Visit to Pictou

Quaint and luxurious. Smelled wonderful when we entered like freshly done laundry. Everything sparkling clean. Beautifully decorated rooms each with unique vintage pieces. Luxurious bed, linens and towels. Breakfast is in a European style tea room  with fine china. Our hosts served us croissants yogurt and local fresh blueberries. Very friendly hosts. Lovely experience. Thank you!

European luxury Inn

The facility is quite lovely and clean, and a nice location. The Inn’s door was locked until exactly 4 pm, check-in time; just seemed a bit unfriendly as numerous people were standing around outside waiting to get inside. I suppose I should have done my research but they put us on the 5th floor (we’re obviously older) and no elevator. But what stood out was the inappropriate remarks from the hosts and their stinginess. My husband was served, literally, a tablespoon of granola, along with about 4 blueberries and a small yogurt. That, along with a store bought croissant was the breakfast. We were not allowed to serve ourselves nor were we offered seconds.
