We wanted a quick getaway for a special anniversary. This resort is very popular this season and my husband checked in regularly for vacancies. He found an opportunity and away we went. 
We had dined here prior, but this was our first overnight stay. My expectations were not high and I was pleasantly surprised how nice our little "cottage" was. 
The rooms are very clean and kept up very well. We had an Oceanview queen with separate bedroom. The gardens in front of each unit were a very nice touch, as was the cute little porch with chairs overlooking the ocean.
We loved the location and the weather cooperated enough that we enjoyed the salt water pool, strolling the beach and enjoying the sunset from the comfortable patio just off the dining room.
Dinner was great and staff at the restaurant went over and above to accommodate our dietary needs. 
My favourite part was watching the seabirds and the seals popping up their heads. Bring your binoculars. I look forward to our next visit.

Rustic Serenity 

Our group of 4 (including family from Alberta) had a fantastic meal in the dining room.  Although it was only the second day open after the winter season, the staff were very attentive and professional.  All the meals were delicious!  The brussel sprout salad was flavorful and very well presented, as were the crab cakes!!  All the seafood dishes including fish and chips, mussels and seafood al fredo were excellent.  One member of the party required a gluten free meal, and the chef made a delicious version of the catch of the day with oil, lemon etc.  We think it should  be added to the menu!!  The whole experience was a 10/10!!!

Great dining experience!!

This is the second year in a row that we have stayed in a Chalet at Pictou Lodge. Last year, we stayed in a bottom 2-bedroom unit. This year, we booked an upstairs 3-bedroom and 2 bathroom chalet.  The chalets are newer than the other accommodations and have a spectacular view overlooking the ocean and pond.  Last year, we found the downstairs unit to be noisy (the floors above are not sound-proofed, so you hear every footstep). Not a problem this year. The weather and the view were both spectacular!  Heat pumps kept the chalet very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. Due to the pandemic, there is no housekeeping service, but you just have to call the front desk, tell them what you need, and place dirty linens on the deck and they'll bring you replacements.

We visited during a heatwave, but the beach was never crowded; in fact, we had it to ourselves most days until after lunch! There are 10 chaise loungers and four fire pits on the beach. There is another fire pit located near the outdoor pool. The firepits were restocked daily with wood, kindling, paper - at no cost! The pool was warm and there were towels available. There are bikes/helmets, a small basketball court, large outdoor checkers, horseshoes, bocce ball, and watercrafts (2 canoes, 1 SUP, 2 peddle boats) for guests' use at no additional cost (win, win!!).

Now for my 'constructive criticism.' My family loves this resort, but I see so much potential for it to be an AMAZING destination...and at very little cost. For the price we paid per night for a 3-bedroom chalet (>$500/night), I feel the resort could re-invest some of this money into the property. I'm not talking about expensive infrastructure changes, just small things. For example, the stairs leading down to the water activities at the pond needs to be replaced. The outside stairs by the fitness room have long grass growing up between the steps - trim it.  A new/better wharf that doesn't sink would also be great! The hotel website and marketing material indicate that there is a putting green. The 'green' is artificial turf that is covered in foliage, matted and not maintained, so not usable. There is no beach volleyball, as indicated. There is one washer toss set, but we could not locate it during our stay. The front desk indicated that a guest must have taken it back to their room. A volleyball net and a few more washer toss sets would help enhance the guest experience and cost very little! My children were also disappointed that they could not use the bikes, as several guests had 'hogged' them during their stay (i.e. had them on their decks or screened in porches). We saw four bikes on someone's deck for an entire day that were never used. Not fair. This is where hiring a summer student or two would help enhance the summer recreation activities. Hire students to sign out the bikes and ensure they are returned. Have the students assist guests down at the watersports - tying up boats, hanging up paddles and lifejackets, signing out washer toss boxes. Additionally, the 'games room' is only open on certain days for a few hours. Summer students could run some activities for children out of here during the summer (e.g. painting, crafts, scavenger hunt, etc.) to help position Pictou Lodge against other similar resorts that offer children's programs. Perhaps also have some board games and books that guest can borrow? Maybe a ping pong table in the games room for kids? The fitness room could also use a refresh (a little paint, new flooring and a few newer pieces of equipment, weights, yoga mats wouldn't break the bank).

To reiterate, we love this place, and I would love to see it reach its maximum potential. We're already booked for a 4-night stay next summer in a 3-bedroom chalet. Can't wait to return to Pictou Lodge Beach Resort!

Sunshine & Beach Time!

Our first time staying here and it was absolutely wonderful. We stayed 2 nights in an ocean view queen suite. These have a separate bedroom and sitting area and are quite spacious and vaulted ceilings - very nice. Also a deck to sit out with chairs. They have a pool, bikes, kayaks and nice little beach area. The Lodge itself is really beautiful and the food and service is spectacular. The Arctic char wellington was my fave but honestly everything we had was delicious and the staff really knock themselves out. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Wonderful beach front stay

Great seaside location, 15+/- minutes from Pictou. Hot and sunny..... It’s always sunny along the north shore of Nova Scotia!! The resort offers a variety of room categories. We stayed in a two level chalet. The chalet is located along a small lake and the chalet offers an appealing ocean view. The resort grounds are well maintained. The resort offers various activities for children and adults. There is an outdoor pool and a sandy beach on the ocean. The restaurant is good. The meal prices are a bit on the high side; however, the food is good and the portions are generous. Good staff and friendly Maritime service! See video on YouTube channel:  nwaynesworld 

COVID Vacation

First time staying and will definitely be going back!  Stayed 2 nights in a cottage and our daughter was just buzzing with excitement the whole time. Lots of lawn games all around the property, playground, fire pits, free bikes and boats to use, long beach to walk, outdoor pool, the list goes on!
Also drove down the sunrise trail to a sheep farm and a lavender farm. Very cool. 
Clean rooms and excellent service as well. 
New summer getaway spot for sure!

Can’t wait to return!

Had an excellent stay here during the "Summer of COVID". The room was in one of 3 buildings in a U shaped cluster with a great view of the water. Included a little front porch with adirondack chairs to sit and enjoy the view. Room had a "log cabin feel" with a separate bedroom. Great value with a Nova Scotia "Staycation" promotion. Had two breakfasts and two dinners in the dining room. Food and service were both excellent!  Enjoyed the outdoor heated salt water pool. Discovered after moving on to our next destination that I had left a pair of shoes in the room. Person I spoke with on the phone took the time to go check the room herself. She called me back right away to let me know she found the shoes and would hold them until we passed through the area again later in the week. All in all...a great stay and experience.  We will definitely be back!

Great Stay and Great Food

Had a great weekend. Beautiful setting and weather, super friendly staff, great food and drinks. Oceanview suites were perfect, enjoyed both the beach and pool. Our server Amy F. made dinner both nights very enjoyable. Thanks for a great beginning to summer 2020. Looking forward to coming back soon!

First Weekend of Freedom 2020!

It always fascinates me that we spend so  much time traveling the world when we have all these great treasures so close to us. The resort is a little remote but really not that far off the main highway. Beautiful old log Lodge and Cabins as  well There is also completely modern cabins . However the highlight is the dining room in the main lodge. the staff are so friendly and the food is of such high-quality that you cannot but help to be pleased.   Great value for your money. 
There is also several other sizes of accommodations to suit size of group and budgets. The town has some interesting tourist attractions and is close to beaches and the ferry to PEI.

Unfortunately it is closed for the season but it is well worth putting this on your agenda for next summer you will not be disappointed
