A small room has a kitchen meme with smells and noise the outer shower of the room gives directly to the wall of the room the noise is hellish, the room and just made for a child and his rented couple, breakfast and as add really light

We arrived around 10pm and the owner was waiting for us. We had the family studio, two beds for two people, impossible too small. There was a small window, impossible to open because a plexiglass is set for the air conditioning which is so loud that you can't stand it to sleep, so we choked. The housekeeping, hadn't been done, we found traces of drinks on the table, crumbs, dust sheep and plastic packaging leftovers on the floor. In the sink there are some hair that didn't belong to us. The wifi didn't work very well, but the owner must doubt it. So the booking photos are very misleading because they show a different neighbor in the room and they don't want to be forgotten.

To avoid

Remembering the last time, I made a special trip here, going a little out of my way. There's been many changes over the past 2 years. They've added a bathroom in the upstairs suite in the separate building. A little cramped. Even with the kitchenette it's hard to create a meal in the space. Its still quiet, still out of the way, still different, just not as good, this time. It seems to have lost that personal touch. Prices have gone up and to me, service just wasn't the same. Their store was closed. I think I was spoiled last time. this is the new reality...

Not as good...

We rented the studio for a short stay of one night. There was a spa in the common area that gave off a smell of moisture and mold throughout the building. We had to sleep with the window open, we got cold. The walls and ceilings of the room were covered with cloth which did not improve the air quality. Soft and uncomfortable mattresses. There was a toilet in the room but there was no privacy because it didn't have partitions. In short, we don't recommend.

Well, it's a very hospitable place, but it's a very poor place.

We loved the welcome, the owners were very friendly, our room was very cozy and clean, and we had access to the spa in a more intimate corner and enjoyed a good lunch.

At the Tournenvert, our escape took a pleasant turn.

We found this little B&B on booking.com. we chose it because of reviews, pricing and location(on our way home to Nova Scotia). 

The owners were very accomodating as we rolled in after 10:30pm from a long day on the road. We were greeted, given a small tour and were very happy with our quarters.  

My self, my fiancee, my sister-in-law  and my 4 year old nephew  stayed In the family studio in the out building. It was rustic, but very comfortable and clean. It had a little kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave, hotplate and utensils.  There was also a common area with a hot tub. The night we stayed, we were the only guests in the out building and enjoyed having the facilities to ourselves. Sitting in the hottub after a long days drive was a perfect ending to a long day.

The grounds are also beautiful, it is situated on a farm property with barns a d little outbuildings. There was also a little play area for children.

All in all a great experience!



Hidden Gem

At the Tournenvert, is located near the Odanak Indian Reserve, a place full of culture, where the appeasement is at your rendezvous with the sound of the birds in the morning when you wake up. The welcome from the owners Johanne and Jean was warm. They will bring you the accommodation and well-being necessary for your stay by knowing how to deal with each person's personality. I highly recommend this place where rest and fun will satisfy you by being close to multiple tourist places such as the navigator's road, the Abenaakis Museum, the islands and the multiple lakes and more.

Excellent location and warm welcome

We were looking for somewhere to stay between Montreal and Quebec, and hit upon this place because 1) it got great reviews, and 2) it was in the middle of nowhere.    

Both perceptions were vindicated, and we really enjoyed getting off the beaten track to spend some time in the farm country of Quebec.  The accomodations are very rustic (the couple built most of the place themselves) but clean.  And even though we are way past the age when we want to share a bathroom with strangers, it was no big deal.  The place breeds an air of shared respect and comfort.  

Whether you sleep in the main house or outbuilding, make sure you stay for breakfast with the family - they are lovely people, and you can chat in English.  (If you want to get the conversation started, ask Jean about his ancestor, the French spy!)

To get a meal in town (Pierreville or Saint-François-du-Lac, population ~2000, respectively), you will have to forget English and break out your pidgin French or ... sign language.  

All in all, Au Tournenvert was a fun and different place to stay, and it gave us a nice break from yet another faceless, aseptic Marriott.

Close Quarters with a Farm Family

This is basic accommodation in a rural setting alongside Lac Saint Francois. It is more than that though with genuine caring service from proprietors Johane and Jean and their 6 wonderful children - not all stay there, but we did meet them all! It is also more than a bed and breakfast in that there was a toaster oven, microwave and room to cook if you wanted with all the amenities available to do so. Nice touches included a whirlpool, BBQ, fire pit, water dispenser and a small fridge which we had access too. Basic continental breakfast is available for $ 4 if you choose. The property has been with the family for generations and was at one point a hobby farm. They recently lost their cow, but I did see the local milkman attend. There is a small forest on their property and usable trails that are worth hiking. Watch for the geese that just had a baby and the cat that comes around for a pat. The family is very much into charities both local and international. They have a small used clothing store on the premise whose sales aid their causes. Fancy it is not but we loved it here. Very gracious family made our stay so enjoyable. Little cost for a lot of pleasure!!
