The golf grounds are vast, beautiful and impeccably maintained.  Management provides attentive and friendly service. Unlike impersonal big hotel chains, we met people who truly know the meaning of hospitality at Calabogie Highland Golf Resort.  Joanne accommodated my last minute booking and late check-out.  She responded promptly to my texts even the one I sent her at 5:30 am about late check-out.  The golf manager was very kind to my seven year old grandson who wanted to try the driving range for the first time.   He lent him his daughter's clubs.   Yes, the units are a little tired with a few bumps here and there but all the essential is provided.  The king sized bed was comfortable, we had more than enough towels, the air conditioning worked perfectly, which was a relief in this heat wave.  Furthermore, the price of our two-bedroom unit was quite competitive.  I would recommend booking the top unit, though to avoid hearing other guests above and to enjoy more privacy.   Balconies are spacious; ideal to enjoy meals on a sunny day!  Note: their swimming pool is closed but nearby Barnet Park has a lovely beach including a playground for the little ones.  We will return.

True hospitality at Calabogie Highlands Gold Resort

As this is a golf resort, it's pretty quiet in the winter. The 1-bedroom suite was well-stocked and cozy. Know before booking that there is no TV in the bedroom, only in the living space. For us this was a plus; some people may want to watch TV in bed, so bring a laptop. :)

We had a few minor issues that were swiftly remedied by management. Would definitely return.

A place to relax in winter

I am sure M. J. O'Brien must have found Barryvale a safe haven when he first arrived to build the K and P rail line and it sure feels like that today. The Kingston/Pembroke rail line was built in the 1880's to bring people to this beautiful part of the County of Renfrew, ON. Today, the Old K and P Trail, is a well travelled route that has folks stopping, staying and playing at Calabogie Highlands Golf Resort. 
You know you are at a friendly, family run business, when the owner checks you in, at the office in the Pro Shop and leaves you her cell phone number in case you need anything. Everything was exactly what I needed to enjoy some relaxed family time. 
We enjoyed a visit to the Calabogie Motor Sports Track and everyone was impressed with this first-rate operation and will always remember those motorcycles racing around the track. 
After a delicious meal at the Red Neck Bistro, I headed to shore of the resort to watch the beautiful sunset and take countless photos. 
Time with my children and grandchildren on the putting green was another highlight for me. I also managed to finish writing a new short story, sitting next to the well-manicured gardens. 
Calabogie Highlands Golf Resort is a small resort with huge offerings, that has managed to survive a pandemic and thrive again. I give this resort, its owners and employees FIVE stars.

Safe haven

This is a breathe-taking course! The 18 hole course leaves you in awe of its beauty & tranquility.  It is challenging yet so fun.  If you are in the area do yourself a favor and play this course...YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!

This is a SPECTACULAR GOLF COURSE

I wanted to pass on how disappointed we were with our stay this past weekend.  We originally stayed there three years ago on a ATV trip.  At that time the rooms were dated but still reasonably comfortable.  One of the main reasons we originally decided on the Calabogie Highlands was that fact that we could get a two room condo with kitchen facilities.  Location for sure is perfect, especially for ATV trips and the reason why we decided to return again this year.

As soon as we arrived, you could tell that absolutely nothing has been done to preserve this great location.  Our room was musty, the carpet was full of stains, and you could hardly open a window in the second bedroom.  The taps are falling apart in the bathroom and that’s just the beginning.  To top it all off, Sunday morning has a “planned” power outage that we were not told about and basically we threw out our breakfast that we were in the middle of cooking at the time. 

As much as we enjoyed the restaurant Saturday night, we will not be returning.  Its such a shame that such a great place has been so badly neglected.  

Unfortunately, will not return!

My overall experience was a disgrace (and that may be a compliment) .  I first booked a weekend for the long weekend of August, but with unforeseen circumstances, I had to cancel (within about 15 hours of booking).  I had no issue in paying the $100 cancellation fee, especially as I was informed by a staff member that I could use that $100 towards another reservation this summer.  
I rebooked for the Labour Day weekend, 3 nights.  

When I called to book there wasn't a lot available - however, there was a "Lake View" room with a full kitchen, balcony, living room, etc - I didn't get to apply the full $100 against the stay, but what I believed worked out to about $50.  With the updated room (Lake View and Full Kitchen), I agreed and booked my stay. 

Upon arrival I immediately saw that I did not have anything close to a lake view. Very few units on the property have a lake view. This is a blatant lie.  My view was a parking lot: trees, trucks/cars/trailers (depending on who was staying that evening) and a small lake patch in the distance that, if one wore glasses, would look like nothing more than a cloud. 

After calling the receptionist immediately after checking in to ask if there was another room available with a better room, as I was sold on a Lake View, I was informed that this was my only option. Given that I drove 2 hours from the East End of Ottawa, I chose to make the best of it ... which became one of the worst experiences I have had on any trip. 

Here is a consolidated list of the issues: 
1. Bottle caps on bedroom carpeted floor (was it vacuumed?) 
2. Coffee stains, remains, in coffee maker - dried and slightly mouldy 
3. Bar of soap from previous guest in shower 
4. FILTHY SHOWER  - we used a magic eraser and cleaned the bathtub for 30 min - the shower curtain was so dirty and mouldy that we showered with it open, to avoid looking at the filth or touching the curtain. 
5. bathroom sink - toothpaste and hair from last guest - had to disinfect myself
6. Bathroom towels - Yellow and dingy 
7. Kitchen towels, dirty - not too sure they were changed between guests 
8. Drying rack for dishes - mould or residue built up 
9. No coffee table 
10. Living room patio door - screen completely unattached - could not leave the door open due to the number of animals in and out of the unit constantly 
11. Electrical - Phone and fire alarm electrical need to be looked at  
12. Maintenance work completed Saturday morning - The maintenance crew spent almost 2 hours the Saturday morning of labour day weekend with a high pressure air blower blowing the entire outside of the establishment. We could not open a window and they spent 20 min at our front door blowing constantly. It was loud, annoying, and kept us indoors for 2 hours due to the extreme amount of dirt and dust around our unit. This work should be completed in down time, not on a peak weekend morning when guests are trying to relax / enjoy their patio. 
13. I spoke with the individual responsible for upkeep in the suites Saturday afternoon to express my disappointment with the unit - she expressed she would give a night refund AND have a maintenance person attend the unit Sunday while we were playing golf to fix the screen, allowing us to keep the patio door open.  NO one showed up and the issues were not rectified, as promised.  

I am disgusted with the condition of the room, especially given the current circumstance and health risks presented by a pandemic. I am disgusted with the blatant lies and disrespect from senior management to lure in clients.

I do not be recommend and will not be returning... I would advise anyone thinking about spending a long weekend there to reconsider. Your $200 a night would best be spent elsewhere.

Terrible, dirty, would not recommend or return

We received a gift certificate for a one night stay in a villa and a round of golf with cart.  We were able to check into our suite before our game and found it to be clean and spacious.  All the staff were very friendly and helpful.  Course was in fairly good shape except the fairways needed some watering, greens were in good shape.  We had dinner in the dining room at the resort and were the only ones in there.  Brittany was our server and did a fantastic job of taking care of us and those sitting outside in the rain!  The only con I can think of is that the restaurant doesn't open till 11 a.m.  We didn't realize this so we did not bring any food for breakfast.  We will know for next time.

Will go back

We were really looking forward to staying here on a recent trip to Ontario.  We booked this place as a stopover from Barrie to Mont Tremblant via Algonquin Provincial park.  At check in we were advised the restaurant had a very limited menu as it was end of season and they recommended we drive back into town to eat (no idea why they couldn't have emailed and let us know before our trip).  We ignored the restaurant advice as we had spent all day in the car and had a great night in the restaurant and Sandra is an excellent host.  The rooms are very large, well appointed and have great views over the lake.  Be warned the water is sourced from their own spring and their is an awful smell of sulphur, and we found over powering, and as result it is highly unlikely we will stay here again.  At checkout we had to wait 30 minutes for someone to arrive so we could settle our bill which put our schedule behind.

Not up to expectations.

RESTAURANT
- Restaurant staff claimed to our entire breakfast crew that the cream was curdling in our coffee for two days because of the hard water – total BS
- Bathrooms were f-i-l-t-h-y and not cleaned before restaurant opening hours – 2 days in a row.  I brought it to their attention and the staff said, it’s not my job – nice
- They ran out of coffee both mornings we were there at breakfast.

BUILDINGS ARE TIRED!  
- Stain on siding is way overdue everywhere
- Roof shingles are curling
- Eaves, drainage bad when raining
- Spout in our bath was about to fall off
- Bath fixtures all loose

THE GOOD
- Cleaning staff did a good job
- Inside was nice (other than bath plumbing)

If Your Choices Are Limited

Me and my wife wanted to head out of town for some rest and relaxation on the weekend, and based on reviews I booked this place. What a mistake this was:

Check-in:  The checkin counter is located in a sad looking structure where people book golf carts and tee times. There was no one at the chekin counter. I asked the guy at the store how are we suppossed to check in and he said the person manning the checkin went home early. We spent 1 hour waiting for someone to show up and give us keys to our room!!!

The Room: Stained carpets (see photo). Bedroom curtains are thin and shorter in width than the windows, so light comes in from street lights and sunlight (see photo), tables with mold (see photo), very shabby AC in middle of living room (see photo).

Conclusion: We are very disappointed!!
