Well, I'd divide our experience to two parts; Host, and the rest.

Assume that you are invited to a nice place that you have heard so many good thing about. A beautiful place with a friendly host. What is the first sentence you would expect to hear when your ring the bell? Probably: "Hi, You are finally here! Welcome!" or something in those lines, right?

Now assume that you get lost and you go to a wrong address. What is the first reaction you'd expect to see from the person who opens the door? Probably he’d look at you from toe to head and says: "Yes?!!!! Can I help you?” That is the first reaction and statement we heard at Little York! My first thought were: "Oh! we are at a wrong address! or our reservation did not go through, that is why no one is not expecting us!". Turns out we were at the right address and the reservation had gone through. Then I though, "Oh, I see! This is not the HOST. Probably someone working form him". But I was wrong. He was THE HOST. So we got our rooms (in the loft) with almost same type of attitude all the way till he left. I should add that by mistake, I unlashed my dog when we were “in the loft” when the host was showing me the rooms, thinking that he will stay with me as he usually does but he went back down stairs through the semi open door. I ran after him and got him on leash in about 1 minute. He said he had a cat at home and she (the cat) does not like dogs. This was the first time I heard about a cat in the house and met her later when she was sleeping by the window “in the dining area”). Anyways, I apologized for the inconvenience and made sure the dog is not left off leash in the house at anytime after. 

Next day, break fast time, I ask the nice lady who served the breakfast if I could have my dog under table while we eat. Having seen the cat in dining area, I thought this might be ok because my dog is not bigger than a cat and he sleeps quietly while we eat. She said to ask the host. I found him in the kitchen and said: "Would you mind if my dog stays under table in dining area while we eat". Without turning to me, he replied: "NO!" [two seconds silence] "Absolutely impossible. I already told you this is my cat's house. Your dog should be on leash". I said: "I am not asking to leave him off leash, I asking if he can stay under the table while we eat". He said: "In PEI, animals cannot be in restaurants". My next though was: "I though cats are animals too:" but I said "ok, thanks" and left.

Night time, we decided to open a bottle of wine in the backyard. We asked the host to give us a corkscrew. Walking into dining area shaking his head and hands, he said: "It is in dining area" point at where about it was, and walking toward it. Again I thought why is he so mad? Should we have known the cork screw is in dining area near toaster? Maybe it was mentioned somewhere and we missed it!  When we were leaving the house with the corkscrew toward the door, he said: "Don't forget to lock the door", with the same attitude. Well, this one was very clearly mentioned on the door and we had locked the door EVERYTIME we left the premise. And again, we wondered why he is so discourteous toward us! 

These are a few instances of our encounter with the host. For some reason, he was treating us unmannerly. He almost never talked to us facing us. I did not see a single smile (which is usually very much expected in a service system) during our stay from him. There was no instance that he used word “Please”.  And I tried to quote exactly what was said during our conversations above.

The rest of our trip was amazing. The breakfast was very good and well prepared. The house was beautiful and clean. And the area is not too far from all corners of the island. 

Will I stay there again? Though everything was nice but we did not felt welcome by the host, the answer is absolutely NO!

Nice place not much welcoming host

We enjoyed a 5 day stay in mid-August. Bed and breakfast- this is a gem that did not disappoint. The room, including the mattress, was very comfortable (we were in the Parents room at the front of the house and enjoyed the morning sun). A number of hepful "information tags" were scattered around the house. There was a small TV in the bedroom, but we really didn't watch it, as we had the use of the comfortable and homey living room. Breakfast was amazing, with a different breakfast served on each of the 5 mornings!  We enjoyed chatting with other guests as we ate at the beatiful antique dining room table. We had our itinerary pretty much set as we visited with my daughter's family on the island; however, Robert was able to pass on some great tips and was able to accommodate a special request on our last morning. Dave and the other "help" (sorry, I forget the ladies' names) were wonderful and the location of the B&B was perfect for our vacation. Thank-you Robert, and we will definitely be booking when we visit again!

A wonderful stay!

Wow, great place to stay in PEI. Very comfortable and clean, 10 – 15 minutes from downtown Charlottetown. Also not far from the north shore beaches. Robert was a great host preparing delicious breakfasts, we stayed two night and both breakfasts were wonderful,  the Banana Nutella Muffins,  right out of the oven were to die, and loved the savoury bread pudding was also very good.  Will try to make find a recipe and try both at home. Robert was very helpful with suggestions of the best restaurants.  If I ever find myself in PEI again I would defiantly stay again.

Great Little B&B

This is the third time staying at Little York B & B and again it was great. An elegant country farm house was just the spot for tired cyclists. Robert was our host and could not do enough to make sure we enjoyed our stay including recommending a resturant and giving a drive to Charlottetown! The next morning started with a gourmet breakfast, Eggs Benedict and homemade Blueberry scones!!! We will go back as often as we go to PEI. Wayne and Sharon

I booked this B&B because the reviews were good, the prices were reasonable and it had availability for our dates.   After staying here, I learned what an excellent location it was for exploring PEI.  It is close to Charlottetown and the National Parks, not too far from the airport and yet it offers the quiet space of the countryside.  Robert is an excellent host that provided us wonderful insight to the best places and experiences.  He pays great attention to detail and the gourmet breakfasts showcase his talents.  We really felt how deeply he cares about his home and his guests and enjoyed our stay immensely.
