We booked in very last minute when our flights shifted by 13 hours. Marla and Darrell were very hospitable and happy to help us out. Our stay was excellent from first communication to waving goodbye at the door. The room was comfortable and beautifully decorated and the house itself was just so lovely. Breakfast by the window was delish and dietary restrictions, even at the last minute, were easily met. 

Luckily, Our Flights Were Delayed

This place is about 20 min drive from Halifax Airport
Super clean and the owner helped me get my breakfast earlier than normal hours.
And the price was very reasonable, best price I got during  traveling here in NS for one week.   I will stay here again next time.

Best Value & Super Clean

Such a cute authentic b&b. The breakfast alone was worth it. I highly recommend calling to make a direct reservation & paying cash to ensure the owners earn the full amount. They are such amazing hosts, it was like staying with family. It’s a nice change from the big hotel chains. Highly recommended!!

Like staying with family!

We stayed with Marla and Darrell for three days and felt more like family than guests. .My husband is blind and they were kind, sensitive and accommodating making us both feel very comfortable and welcome. The food was absolutely spectacular and our conversations were educational and heartwarming. This has been the best experience we’ve ever had at a bed and breakfast and we will definitely be back. Amazing home, Amazing hosts

We have found the Nelson House to be a convenient location to break our journey when travelling from Southwest Nova Scotia to Cape Breton or PEI. It is a well-maintained, lovely old home. Our room was very clean and comfortable, with careful attention to guest safety during the pandemic clearly in evidence.  The hosts are very friendly and welcoming, and breakfast is ample and delicious.

The location is good for several reasons, including access to the Halifax Airport, but there weren't many local options for an evening meal.

Our second stay - as nice as the first

Beautiful home, rooms are very nicely put together with all that is needed.
The host are very informative and lovely folks.
Breakfast is delicious there are three choices ordered the night before and a time chosen for a sitting.
There is a nice gathering room to sit and read or chat and ones outside also

Superb

We started our holiday in Nova Scotia by staying two nights here. The owners are very friendly and provide good service. The house is clean and neat, the breakfast tasty. We got some good advice about travel options and attractions in the neighbourhood. Thank you!

A good place to stay

Although we arrived an hour before designated check-in, Marla welcomed us and allowed us to unload the car and relax.  The home has been meticulously maintained and the grounds are well worth a stroll. The flowers, vegetable garden, and unusual trees made the walk enjoyable and educational.
My husband and I occupied a quaint,queen room with a bathroom a few short steps down the hall.  Marla chose not to rent the two-bed room so we had the bathroom to ourselves and enjoyed wearing the provided robes as we made our way to/from.
The breakfast is worth a stay!  The four of us opted for Eggs Benedict which was the best I've ever had!  The pears, poached in a spice infused apple juice, has me itching to entertain and try to copy.
Although local eateries are few, we found that the pub a short walk away had enough variety to satisfy our party of four.

Great access to Halifax airport

such a lovely home and awesome hosts, Darrell and Marla.  Beautiful room with our own private bath- awesome breakfasts-- can say enough good things about this place.  We were made to feel so welcome and comfortable.  We loved it here and definitely highly recommend The Nelson House.  Thank you, Marla and Darrell

Quaint Heritage B&B

Marla and Darrell were such warm and gracious hosts to share their home/B&B with us for 2 nights.  The home is about 30mins north of Halifax in a small town.  Our room was large, clean, and very quaint.  Although the furnishings and linens were a bit dated, I believe that is the design that the owners purposely intended to add authenticity to the home.  The WiFI worked well. The poached pears and waffles for breakfast were very tasty, fresh, and served with great love and attention to detail.  There is very little as far dining - just one family restaurant across the road, other than that the choices were fast food Tim Hortons, Subway, KFC.  thanks Marla & Darrell
