My friend and I ( both seniors) joined Carolin last Sunday for a  ride on the bluffs above Lake Okanagon. My friend is a novice, and I really wanted it to be a great experience for him. Carolin and her well- trained horses made it all look easy, and we both had a great ride. Carolin is friendly and knowledgeable, and the scenery is spectacular. Thank you.

A great ride

I stayed two blissful nights at the Wildhorse Mountain Ranch. The location is gorgeous, hidden up a mountain side near Lake Okanagan, with horses and dogs roaming around the grounds. My room had it's own direct entrance and, while small was very comfortable. The owners are very friendly and made me feel very welcome. And  I have to say that the breakfasts were a delight.

A Little Bit of Heaven

My partner and I stayed at Wildhorse Mountain Ranch for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. Homemade breakfast, trail rides, and the serene beauty of the mountains made this a 10/10 stay for us!

The ranch is a log cabin situated on a hill surrounded by vineyards, mountainside and wildlife. There are dogs, cats, chickens, and a wandering old horse named Julia who greets you as you drive up the road (she is an old horse who roams freely around the ranch, visiting the other horses. We joked that she is the ranch gossip). A large hot tub sits on the deck and is an amazing place to look at the stars or to enjoy the sunset. 

The ranch is run by a lovely German couple who made us homemade breakfast every morning. There was no lunch/dinner service due to COVID-19, but they gave us some great dinner recommendations that were 15 minutes drive. Smoking is allowed in the main area of the cabin, but as non-smokers we did not notice any trace of it. The bed was firm but comfy, and we shared a clean and rustic bathroom with one other room.

We are beginners on horses and did 2 trail rides. They were fantastic! The horses are extremely calm, well-trained, and obedient; both of our rides took us up on the ridge overlooking the lake. It was relaxing and peaceful, and fun to watch the farm dogs race around the fields (the horses were unbothered by them). We’ve never seen such happy dogs!

Overall it was a fantastic stay. One thing to note; the ranch is cash/e-transfer only. Enjoy!

Beautiful ranch in the mountains near the lake and many wineries

Thank you, Brigitte and Jochen, so much for your generous and laid-back hospitality! We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Wildhorse Mountain. Due to our own procrastination in booking, we missed out on the room we wanted and settled for a very small room with two twin beds. Although we would have preferred the larger room with two queens overlooking the valley and grazing horses, the small room was comfortable enough... as we spent most of our time outside visiting with the horses and wandering the property. The location was a quick drive into Summerland and the local wineries. We were disappointed not to be able to enjoy a home-made dinner on-site (cancelled due to COVID-19), however, we enjoyed the substantial fresh fruit, bacon/eggs, cheese/meats, jams, breakfasts on the deck each morning. Our young"waiter" was a delight!  Our trail ride was a particular highlight for us... the horses very responsive and well-trained.... the view from the top of the ridge overlooking the lake and valley were breathtaking. We loved the friendly cats and dogs, and were especially privileged to get up close and personal with two young foals - so sweet!

Highly recommend a stay here if you love animals and are looking for a relaxing retreat and a taste of natural BC beauty.

So relaxing and peaceful!

Thank you to Jochen, Brigitte and Julia for making our trail ride such a great experience again! We live within an hour from this beautiful guest ranch and we love to come back every spring for a trail ride as a special treat for the family. The horses are well trained, the trails allow for an amazing experience. We could  enjoy the breathtaking views of the Okanagan Valley from horseback. This year they took especially good care of social distancing and provided hand sanitizer due to the current Covid situation. We can highly recommend their professional service and warm hospitality.

Our spring highlight every year

We came horseback riding with Jochen and Brigitte and came back a second and a third time within 3 weeks! We actually stayed with them on our second and third visit and by the time we left it felt like we were family. Their hospitality is unheard of and every time we came back they welcomed us with open arms. They take great care of their horses and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous.

Amazing hospitality in gorgeous Summerland

This bed and breakfast is set on a beautiful ranch with incredible valley views.  We stayed in the room with two queen beds. My daughter and I for one night and then my husband joined us for the second night.  We were actually here for a ball tournament so we only had a couple evenings to really enjoy what the ranch had to offer.  The hosts are lovely.  Breakfast is good. There were breads and preserves, cheeses and meats, yogurt and granola, cantaloupe and bacon and eggs. Of course coffee, tea, juice and milk as well.  I didn't eat breakfast the second morning as we had to leave at 6:30 am to the ball field.  There were 3 dogs wandering around the farm and they aren't shy.  The one young lab does like to jump up so be prepared for that. There are cats but they don't tend to approach you.  The chickens were super friendly!  There is a communal fridge that you can store things in. The room was adequate. We had a private bath. Bring your own shampoo and soap for the shower. The only thing I would change with the room is the blind in the bathroom. It's broken and stained and does take away from the charm of the room. There is no TV in the room but there is one upstairs in the common room that you can use. We enjoyed the hot tub both nights overlooking the valley views.  We also sat on the deck and watched the dozens of hummingbirds of all different colours at the feeders. We ate dinner at the ranch the one night and it was delicious. They even offer wine or beer.  My husband, daughter and her friends went on a trail ride and said it was very enjoyable.  They don't have interact or credit card so we paid at the end by cheque and just included the trail rides, dinner and room on one cheque.  This ranch does allow smoking outside. Our neighbours were smokers and it did bug us a little but not enough to ruin our trip.  Fires aren't allowed after April 15th.  Our neighbours and I were wishing there was a propane fire we could sit around as the evenings are cool but you still like to be outside because it's so beautiful.  Our neighbours did a wine tour with the host and said it was excellent.

Unique Bed and Breakfast!

I had a wonderful stay at this ranch.  It was like staying with long lost German relatives; Brigitte and Jochen have created a place where you just feel like you are part of the family.  If you are a traveller that likes to keep to yourself, this may not be the best place for you as I feel like a lot of its charm comes from the interaction with the hosts and other guests.

I opted for a room with a shared bathroom but no one else was in the other room, so there was no jockeying for space.  My room had its own walkout exit and entrance so I could walk straight out to the beautiful view over the valley from my room.    I felt I got incredible value for what I paid and that breakfast was included.  And it is a hearty breakfast!  Bacon, eggs, cereal, yogurt, a variety of breads - you will not go hungry here.  I also opted into the supper option one night and that was very good too.

The room itself was clean enough and provided enough space for my things.  The bathroom was huge and had a great shower.  I did not try the hot tub while I was there.  There isn't much soundproofing so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs.  

And the animals!  If the rest wasn't wonderful already, there were horses, dogs, and cats all over.  I'm an animal lover and was showered with attention from all.  If you love animals, you will love staying here.  I did two rides during my stay and they were picturesque, fun, and catered to the riding skills of the guests.  

Overall, I had a lovely time, it was great value for the money, and I can't wait to come back.

Lovely

We booked for for 4-nights to attend a wedding in Summerland. 

We found the room rates to be very good value and could not believe how wonderful the setting was when we arrived.

The ranch is a 15min drive from the town, and at the time of typing, the last 4km is on a gravel road whilst it is being resurfaced and should be completed in September 2017. A taxi home was around $30 after the wedding. 

The family and their helpers were very hospitable and kind. We were made to feel very welcome and were shown around the kitchen, given access to laundry ($6) and shown how to work the hot-tub. The wifi is via satellite so can be unpredictable, so it is a great opportunity to kick back and relax. Bring snacks and a bottle of wine with you so you can just hang out.

They have thee really friendly dogs (which sleep in the porch and do not come into the house) and three aloof cats, 19 horses and lots of hens. 

Breakfast was delicious: Eggs (laid by their free range hens) and bacon, homemade rye breads and homemade jams from their fruit trees.

Being on a ranch we took full advantage of the horse riding and booked a 2-hr trail ($40/hr) and it was was just like being in the "Big Country". Definitely book as their horses are so well trained and their equipment was top notch.

We were booked into room 4 on the ground floor with a shared bathroom. I confess it was not the most private of B&Bs: whilst the outside walls are wonderful thick wooden trunks, the internal walls and ceilings are rather thin, so if you are looking for a "romantic retreat" this may not be the place for you!

Our family stayed for a couple of nights and had a very nice visit.  

We didn't make much use of the property during the day, but one member of our party indulged in a horse ride and really enjoyed it. 

The location is a bit outside of town, but not a terrible distance to drive to and from once or twice a day.  Be aware that the road leading to the property is currently being repaved (summer 2017) and there are lengthy delays if you travel during working hours.  The distance from town means total peace and dark skies at night, though.

Our room was a bit small, but comfortable and more than sufficient for our short stay.  Access to the shared living room and outside areas, including a small patio outside the room meant that we didn't feel cramped.  A fridge was available for our use and was great for holding our various local food purchases.

Staff were friendly and helpful.  

Breakfast was large and tasty. It's served at a single large table, so we had the opportunity to interact with a few other guests and exchange travel stories and local finds.  Since the table is in a corner, it is a bit of a tight fit if everyone is eating at the same time.  Guests wanting a quieter, more intimate setting might not enjoy it as much.

Overall, I would recommend staying here if you aren't concerned about the location, and especially if you would like to enjoy a quiet, peaceful place in the mountains, and definitely if you want to do some riding.  The price we paid was very reasonable for peak season.
