We arrived late without a reservation, and they were friendly and accommodating. The place is every bit as charming as the pictures. The full-sized Bed in cottage 2 was fine not extremely comfortable, but completely fine. The cottage had a full-sized fridge and was set up really easily, the trails around the place were great. The views were sweet. There were cobwebs in the ceiling and mosquitos about, but this doesn’t bother us. The Place was clean, the dishes were useful. I don’t know how they make a living giving so much for so little. The WIFI worked well not in the cabin but near the check in/ happy hour picnic table, there were bikes. People clearly come and stay for a whole week. We loved it. I am not sure we would want to stay in Bruce mines for a week, we were just passing through. This place made passing through a sweet adventure. Its not like staying in a lighthouse on the north shore with fancy sheets and luxury views. But it was better in a way, less hip and more connected to its history and felt homey in a way that only a family run resort can feel. I wish there were more such places left. Would like to go back. No mildew or mold, bugs at night was just a part of staying in a cabin near water. But the screens kept most of them out.  The history in the guest book was so interesting and the lake gorgeous and right out the door! A great deck for morning YOGA. Go you won’t regret it. 

Good Old fashined family run resort! 

This place is amazing. We had the best time.The cottages are classics. The beds are comfy. The cottages totally old school and clean as a whistle. We took out the kayaks, walked in the water and thought about someday swimming out to the diving platform. But not in early June. If you are passing this way … make a reservation and kick back.
You will not be disappointed!

Perfect Classic Cottages

Well…these are very rustic cottages.
The cottage was on the water…fire-pit outside.
There was wood..and we had a nice fire at sundown.
Took us a while to get it going…folks in next cabin used gasoline and more gasoline!
Couldn’t see the lighthouse as it was rented.
Instead..yuk oven..hadn’t been cleaned in at least a year.
Flyswater provided..lots of flies..cobwebs in rafters.
No heat…had to use wood stove…and oven for heat.  Shower..ugh.
Not cheap accommodation…one of those things we laughed about after.

Stopped for one night on a transit trip and wish we could have stayed longer. Friendly greeting, personalized tour and quiet stay. Fed up with the high priced motels in big cities that really give you nothing. This was a treat. Will go back when we go back to that a area. Quick dinner at Copper Bean also helps make it 5 star.

We rent the McKay Island Lighthouse every year in late October, and love it.  It's quiet, although the lake can get noisy if it's stormy.  In addition to exploring the French and McKay Islands, we travel in the area to Sault Ste. Marie, Thessalon, and even farther.  It's a vacation spot that one never forgets.

Great Quiet Place to Stay

The sheets were dirty and when we asked for clean- the owner simply said no. Very rude and has no business being an inn keeper. The grass was not cut- all in all quite a “dive”. Be careful looking at pictures on the internet- sometimes very deceiving

Never EVER stay here

We spent Victoria Day weekend at Bruce Bay Cottages for family wedding. The resort is lovely. Setting is breathtaking, especially the lighthouse.Cottages are quaint, charming and nicely equipped. It is no luxury, but there is everything you need arranged with lot of love and details. Hosts Pat and Larry were great and made everyone welcomed. If you are going to these parts of northern Ontario, stay at Bruce Bay Cottages, I can heartily recommend.

Lovely quaint retreat on lake Huron

We stumbled upon this rustic group of cottages with beach and fire pits in front of each cottage. Trails to beaches on other side of the island where you can watch the sunset. Just beautiful. Full kitchen. Briquette bbq.  Wood supplied for a fire. You can rent by the week or by the day.

My husband and myself were looking for an overnight stay before our trip to Drummond Island.  I found this adventurous island cottage resort.  We were so happy to find this resort as an island bungalow.  Truly their was a grouping of 4 cottages sharing a beach with their own sittings and fire pits  We felt very relaxed siting and viewing the lake with the town directly across.  That was worth the hour drive past the bridge at Sault St Marie...remember to bring your passport or similar ID.

We stayed in cottage 4. The cottage truly reminded us of a Caribbean cottage.  The natural broad boards creating the inside wall the same as the outside wall.  Bright island colors on the boarders and beautiful mural painted on the kitchen wall--some corresponding birds in the bedroom. The bathroom had great water pressure for a shower and the water was treated for drinking. The floors were painted and were also attractive.  We did not need the wood stove for heating.

I found the Bruce Bay Cottages easy to locate with their signage. We had use of a canoe, kayaks, and a floating dock for swimming.  They are also pet friendly and children friendly.  Many thing for children to do--water toys, bikes, and exploring.
