Clean and comfortable campground. Spacious sites with full hookups available. Check in quick and friendly. Campsite felt extremely safe and was very private. Facilities were spacious clean and useful. Grounds were very pretty

We only discovered this awesome campground 1 night at the end of our holidays. We wished we had discovered it sooner. It is a very unique campground. Friendly owners, quiet campground. We took the hiking trail in later evening and would of loved more time. Sites are spacious .

Camping

First let me say what a wonderful place to RV.  And second let me say that this was our first actual stop at an RV park on our 7 day move/journey across Canada.. and a very much needed stop at that.

Ok here is our story, on December 22nd of 2017 my wife and I began our journey/move from Ontario to Alberta with our remaining possessions that didn’t go with our movers packed to the rafters in our RV.
The first couple of nights we relied on friends and family for a place to plug in (you will remember that from the 22-January 2 was the coldest weeks in 60 years).. but we were comfortable and ok and were able to eat and heat the RV without a worry.  The next phase of our journey began taking us into northern Ontario (Christmas Eve), which in the summer would have Lots of places to camp, refuel propane etc. As well as stay and relax.. well much to our surprise Winter is no such luck.
Tip 1: propane for an RV or car is non-existent between Sudbury and ThunderBay in the winter.
Tip2:plan both refuelling and camps well in advance 

Anyway thankfully after multiple calls around to find a place that was open we found this lovely place just the other side of Sault St Marie that said ‘absolutely we are open, what time do u think u will arrive’ in the most friendly of voices and cheery attitude. (Non-existent in other comments and remarks from other places we called).  We would later come to know this voice as Diane one of the owners and a wonderful spirit.
So we gave our ETA and happily continued our journey to Blueberry Hill.

Upon arrival (about 1 hour late on Christmas Eve about 5pm) we first noticed that the driveway had been freshly cleared,(they had no other visitors but us) and room made to navigate our RV to the gate was easy peasy.  
We were greeted warmly by Ernest (Diane’s husband and Co-owner) and escorted to the office where we settled up the bill for the night and learned various things about winter RV’ing that we had never considered..(we were newbies).. after this wonderful conversation, we were getting in our RV (after a brief tour of the facilities which included showers, heated pool and laundry facilities) when Diane came out with a little Christmas treat bag for us (very yummy sweets btw) and given our choice of 3 freshly plowed RV overnight spots with 30 amp and 50 amp service and even had help backing her up to the ‘best’ site ..amazing service so far we were thinking and we were quite happy we could shower, and launder items that desperately needed it.

Our next morning plan was to leave for Thunderbay, however Mother Nature has other plans for us.. big snow storm closed the roads.  Once again Ernest and Diane to the rescue.. they happily extended our stay by a night, Ernest helped me fill the water tank (water hook up is not available in winter for obvious reasons) and even cleared out the camps RV waste water dump site so that we could empty and prevent damage from the now -38 degrees of Christmas Day.  As if this wasn’t amazing enough, we also got a knock at our door and invited to join their family for Christmas turkey dinner ... what an amazing Christmas surprise (we had planned on shake and bake) and as such we just had to put up our tiny Christmas tree with renewed Christmas spirits.  Dinner was amazing, full of laughter and fun and stories and we truly had an all around amazing time.

Christmas Day was spent walking the beautiful trails (even though cold the scenery was perfect) and the nights company over dinner filled our hearts with a renewed enthusiasm for our journey that the cold had all but swept away.
The next day we left for thunder Bay and made it safely to our next stop as eventually continued on to our final stop in Alberta, though no stop the rest of our journey compared to this one, the whole trek was filled with little surprises of human kindness (we like to think Diane and Ernest started a trend :) )

Con’s:
Not a single complaint to be had from us for sure .. this place is amazing and we and our family will return.

 



Christmas Spirit Renewed -RV experience

Very friendly owners greet you, and guide you to your site.  You pay $5 for a gate fob which is returned when you hand in the fob at the end of your stay.  A seasonal park, with very friendly people.  We were welcomed within 5 minutes of being on our site, and invited to a campfire.  We were also given a ride in a 4wheeler down to the beach (too far to walk and too rough to drive your car) by another seasonal camper.  So nice!!!  The site was huge and level, and under the pines, we rarely ran the a/c in the 7 days we were there.  The temps in SSM were above 30 C.  The pool is heated and indoors, the laundry is adequate $2.50 wash .25 per 5 minutes dry.  The dryers were being replaced as we were leaving.  Diane, the owner, was so friendly, so helpful, you can't help but be happy!  We'd definitely come back to stay here if we were back in the area.  Only 35 km to downtown Sault Ste. Marie.

Friendly campground with full hookups

We had been driving for hours up and down the hills of central and northern Ontario. The drive was stunningly beautiful but it was tiring. We trundled on down the dark road until we came to a very welcome sign: Blueberry Hill Motel & Campground. Campgrounds vary in the suitability of their approach roads. We had tried one earlier in the evening that was up a winding mountain road. This one was much better, with a wide entrance and a good pull-in. I pulled in and ran across to the office. At 9pm it was unsurprising that it was closed. There was a note on the door to say late-comers should go into the motel and knock on the Manager’s apartment.

I felt a bit like a trespasser in the motel but quickly found the Manager’s apartment and rang the bell. A lady with a charming accent answered. She didn’t mind being distrubed during the evening and said they had space for us. Her husband showed us to our site – not easy in the dark but he guided us in with expertise … and a good flashlight!

Next morning, we ventured outside to inspect our surroundings. We were delighted to discover that we were camped in a beautiful pine forest. The ground underfoot was soft with the pine needles that fell and blew around on the slight breeze. It was cold but bright with a gentle sun. Our dogs were thrilled with the location. 

Blueberry Hill turned out to be a very nice place. They have an indoor pool (which we didn’t see but heard the familiar sounds of splashing and fun), sauna, play area and, we gather, lots of events during the summer months. Each campsite is spacious and has a picnic table and fire ring. They have private sites and group sites, which is a nice idea. We stayed on an electric site but they do have electric-water and electric-water-sewer sites as well. There is a good dumping station and even a propane filling station.

They seem to have lots of seasonal campers, giving the place a nice neighborhood feel.

Rates: $24 for a primitive site, £32 for a water & electric site, and $34 for an electric, water & sewage site.

We had a bit of trouble leaving, as we went down the wrong end of the park, but the manager came over to help - cheerfully and not at all condescendingly.

A very nice stay and we wished we could have stayed longer but we were pressing on west.

If you stay in the area, it is worth a trip into Sault Ste. Marie. We passed a large RV dealership that would no doubt be a good place for supplies!
