If you want somewhere convenient to stay with all mod-cons just off the main road then this B&B is not for you, but if you are hoping to find a very personable host and stay off-the-beaten track in a traditional Arcadian property then this will probably suit your requirements nicely.

The main plus point here is authenticity.  Alfred the biligual owner will welcome you into his house, give you whatever help or context you need, and cook a communal breakfast for up to eight guests.  We had the twin room which looked rather dated but was actually very comfortable and in keeping with the character of the house.  

All the bedrooms are upstairs around a landing which is available for use as a guest lounge, although in the evening the proximity of one's fellow guests might put you off using it.

As seemed the norm in Nova Scotia there were no tea-making facilities in the room, although the owner was happy to boil a kettle if required.  Wi-Fi reception was a bit hit-and-miss.

Because this property is a bit tucked away I would suggest you research where you are heading before you get there, especially if you are arriving when it's dark. I programmed my sat nav with the address and it worked a treat, but if you're using a map then look it up on Google etc first and print off a plan of the immediate area and/or note which local roads you need.

My final tip - although it depends of course on what time you will be arriving - would be to consider eating before you get there, otherwise you may find yourself dropping off your bags and heading [back] to Antigonish (we liked the Maritime Inn, incidentally).

The real Arcadia

My partner and I, along with another couple, quite enjoyed our night at the Piping Plover. It was quiet, peaceful, and the breakfast was ample. We were able to meet a lovely German pair at breakfast and swap travel stories/advice. The polite owner was available when needed, but stayed in his part of the house otherwise. Google maps led us straight there. Each room had its own bathroom, and while the outside temperatures were quite chilly, the rooms were very warm. Guests stay in the upstairs, and there is a nice sitting area with couches if you don't want to be stuck in your room. Views from the windows are lovely, and deer wander through the yard frequently. This is a true Acadian home, with a welcoming host. Recommended.

A lovely evening

The property is a little out of the way but that suited us as it is in a very peaceful setting. There was no one else staying whilst we were there which meant that we spent a pleasant evening talking with Alfred and Ann Marie. The room was a good size and the bed comfortable. There was a good offering for breakfast.

Overall a very nice property, would have liked to have stayed here for longer.

Quiet location

We've been to many, many B&Bs over the last seven years and quite a few in this area. This is one of the very best by far. Outstandingly clean and pleasant, beautiful home,  great shower, and owners clearly make every effort to keep it perfect. High quality linen, soap, shampoo and even toilet paper! All at great rate. On the top of my list for future excursions in the area.

Would give a 7 if I could

Very clean in a quiet area.  Owners were extremely hospitable and nice.  Private bath and great breakfasts.  Highly recommend if you`re in the area a need a place to stay.  Stayed there two nights; a good ``base camp`` if you`re doing Cape Breton/Cabot Trail

Excellent place

It was difficult to find the B&B. We ended up - according to Google maps - in downtown Antigonish and had to call the B&B from a local store to have us “brought” to the place (he sent his son). The room was on the second floor with no elevator. It was rather small, and without refrigerator. The owner was very friendly.  We were allowed to store our food in the owner’s refrigerator. Breakfast was excellent, served in the owner’s dining room around a table with 2 other guest couples.
