This is an older property with some updates (such as the bathroom, which has a newer shower). Comfortable for a getaway to Waterton Park where you will likely be outside for most of your visit. It is a two-storey hotel and you do need to climb fairly steep and narrow stairs to get to rooms on the second level. Our room did not have any sort of a closet, just a coat rack with a  few hangers. Also, rooms do not have televisions, so if you want to watch sports on TV, be prepared to head to one of the bars.

Charming older inn in the heart of Waterton

The room was too small for a king size bed. We could barely walk around the room. There was a small table that was hinged...it was not flat. The deck was significantly peeling and in need of paint. The staff that managed the property were friendly. I would not return.

We booked a room at Crandell Mountain Lodge when we suddenly had to change plans due to wildfires at Jasper National Park.  I was concerned over some of the reviews and was prepared for a disappointment.  Instead we found a charming rustic lodge and our unit was very clean, spacious, and completely satisfactory.  We had two bedrooms and a living rooms with a well equipped kitchenette.  The very clean bathroom had quality amenities - shampoo, conditioner, and lotion.  It was relatively quiet, we could just occasionally hear muffled noise from footsteps on the stairs.  The parking was very convenient right out front and the lodge location on the edge of town was away from the noise but still within walking distance of restaurants etc.  We also enjoyed sitting outside at the tree shaded tables right out in front of the lodge.  I would not hesitate to stay at Crandell Mountain Lodge in the future!

Very Pleasant Surprise!

Our room was antiquated and dismal. The aluminum blinds were twisted and bent, the wall was gouged and paint had fallen off. The bathroom door only opens halfway and hits the small counter. The toilet is smack against one wall and difficult to sit on. The bathroom itself is only 3 feet wide and has an 18” sink jutting out. To use the sink you have to stand sideways. The room is so small the bed is pushed against the wall meaning aces from only one side. The lamp shade is ripped.The walls are paper thin which means you can hear conversations from other rooms. I notified the desk and the manager was there and he just gave me a blank look of indifference. What do want for $200 a day? A lean room with an accessible bathroom.

1939 Rustic

We enjoyed our stay at Crandell. Our room was on the second floor, and included a mini refrigerator and microwave. The weather was perfect and enjoyed the cool breeze at night. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the mornings and watching the deer. The Lodge is walking distance to shops and restaurants.  Our room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Charming Lodge

Extremely overpriced ($600 for 2 nights).  Other posts have highlighted the items that are lacking - no ac, phones, etc.  Explanation why tvs and phones were were removed because the walls are too thin - which is true.  
There is quaint and cozy but don't charge resort prices for a basic motel.
Advice to ownership - be creative.  Provide rockers or loungers for your deck instead of the crummy patio furniture.  Offer books, games, morning baked goods - something...
Have a partnership with local businesses (food, rentals).
Will stay at a different location on next visit.

Terrible value and no amenities.

This used to be such a charming inn and now has filthy carpets throughout! The deck, which is a great asset to the experience of CML needs painting and it would be nice if the tables were wiped occasionally. 
On the positive side, it is quiet and a good location. 
I would recommend the owners renovate and upgrade the rooms and the deck, to its previous charming state.

What happened?

Had a nice one-night stay while traveling through the area. While the lodge is not very close to the downtown area of Waterton, the town is not that big and it is worth the short walk to where the shopping and dining are located.
I had a room upstairs and it was a roomy space, but don't expect a TV. This was actually a happy surprise for me as I wanted to be outdoors and not cooped up in a room with a TV going.
It's an older hotel, so the walls are not very soundproof. For the most part that was not an issue, but the room next door was filled with small kids who did not have a TV to distract them...so running and screaming ensued.

Old school lodge on the outskirts of town

Stayed for 2 nights. This is an older property and they were doing some room renovations whilst we were there. Good location, just a short walk into the main street and was quiet. Room was on the small side especially the bathroom but was clean.

Good location

Where do I start? We had a ground floor room, the only source of heat was a gas fireplace, when the thermostat called for heat many times during the night the gas lit and illuminated the whole room. The fireplace was situated 12 inches from my head so this was really annoying all night. The entrance area to the rooms is on a multi level wooden deck made from 2x4 lumber which was not only slippery when wet, but not in any way wheelchair friendly due to multiple levels of this weird deck. At night it was unlit making it an extreme tripping hazard. The carpets were filthy with ground in dirt and pine needles. The door to our washroom could only be opened about 20 inches before it hit the kitchenette cupboard. The actual bathroom was very narrow maybe 40 inches. The smoke detector above our bed had been removed, subsequently if there had been a fire no noe else in the building would have been warned. The gas stove had no safety devices to prevent the gas from being turned on when there was no flame( thermocouple) highly dangerous. Just a totally unacceptable state. $430.00 for 2 nights was not worth it. And very unsafe. Are there no fire inspectors out there for Waterton?
