A very average hotel in Beijing's Haidian district - so if you're not doing work nearby, you might want to be somewhere more central, like Sanlitun or nearer Wangfujing.

Non-Chinese dining options nearby are limited but at least the subway station is nearby so you can take the underground to other areas.

Rooms were ok, breakfast was typically Chinese - there is little option for those who can't really stomach rice porridge or noodles in the morning. You might be able to scramble up some toast (white bread only) and a hard-boiled egg. The coffee is diabolical.

Reception staff barely speak English so anything more complex than a simple check-in may be a challenge.

Typical mid-range Chinese hotel

This is a reasonably priced, standard business hotel, with some pluses and some minuses. My hosts booked it, and I might have sought a courtyard hotel at a lower price but with more character, if left to my own devices. However, the pluses are the location -- right on top of the Mudanyuan subway station, which is very easy to get to from the airport for anyone on a budget trying to avoid resorting to taxis. The rooms have all the standard facilities, including a safe, iron & ironing board, kettle, etc,, that you might expect of a more expensive place. My room was kept immaculately clean. The free wifi was welcome. The breakfast buffet might not suit all Western tastes, but was extensive. The minuses were that the staff, while friendly, had limited English (OK for me, as a Mandarin speaker, but not for everyone in our group), and the air con wasn't available, even though the temperature was well over 30. I had a north facing room, so I was OK. Again, others weren't

While I can't complain about the business facilities for conferences and meetings, the rooms themselves are of poor quality. The shower head is not properly fixed, spraying water everywhere apart from where it should be. We stayed there in October and while the temperature outside was 8-10 degrees C, there was no option to switch on heating in the room - though if you do find this temperature too hot, you can opt to switch the A/C on which will work perfectly. Beds are hard - relatively normal for China. Apparently this hotel is highly rated by Chinese locals... I'm guessing they've never stayed in a western hotel. Breakfast I would personally avoid - food was cold and not much selection. Coffee is instant and tasteless. Location is also far from the city centre which makes visiting sights difficult - even though I was there on business, having finished the conference at 5pm and considering it takes nearly an hour to get to Tiannmen Sq/Forbidden City, you start considering, "Is it worth it?" But, there is nothing in the area itself so it's needed. There are so many better hotels in and around Beijing itself for around the same price and I would opt for them in the future. Staff speak very little, if no, English - manageable if you speak little Chinese yourself. You also need to pay for a wifi router which is refundable on check out - but considering the very limited power outputs in the room (2) it makes charging appliances difficult and annoying.

My hosts arranged for this hotel, and I had low expectations - I've only stayed in decent hotels in China when I've booked them myself, otherwise the standards are lower than they are in other countries, both in Asia and elsewhere. But this was a tough few days. The room was dirty, with fresh stains on the chairs and rug, it hadn't been vacuumed, etc. It had the standard, rock hard bed, which is par for the course in Beijing. Staff spoke very little English. WiFi has to be requested (they bring an access point up to your room, and it is plugged into the only available outlet). For that matter, only one outlet in the room? Made recharging my laptop and phone impossible. Took 48 hours to get my laundry back, and then only when I asked. Restaurant for breakfast was average for non-chain hotel in Beijing, meaning it was OK but not great. Location also not great - not too far from the city center, but not very close, either. You can do better, with a better location and better price, elsewhere in the city.
