I was on a group tour, and I am very glad the tour company chose this amazing hotel. A true gem for anyone who appreciates history. The first "luxury" hotel in Beijing, and a hotel which saw many events in modern Chinese history. There are plenty of pictures in the lobby, and in the corridors, which describe events of the last century that took place in and around this hotel. There is also a very interesting exhibit in one of the corridors of objects dating from the early part of the last century. A sort of mini-museum. Rooms were OK, a bit small, but quite adequate. Breakfast was good. There is an interesting coffee shop on the ground floor. The hotel has an inner courtyard, a haven of peace and tranquility. Sitting in this courtyard, it is difficult to believe that you are right in the heart of Beijing. Service was excellent. As I said, I did not choose this hotel, it was chosen by my tour company. But, if ever I go to Beijing again, I would undoubtedly stay in this hotel. Its location is superb, right in the heart of the city, and it has all the creature comforts one can ask for.
