it is in the narrow street near the centre of the city, excellent location, the rooms are quiet small but adequate. You wmay find difficulty in finding it, but the locals are very helpful, The staff are also helpful and speak good english, plenty of eateries near, plenty of choice.

Not easy to go there, and not easy to go away, because Beijing taxi would not like to go near this hotel's front door because the street is so narrow once get in might you have to reverse out all the way. We pushed our luggage from the doorway and run alone the whole street to the main road, and just manage to see our the taxi drove away, we call the hotel manager to help, she spent over more than an hour with us at the road junction, waiting, and calling on phone, and waiting, until we finally got into the taxi. Yes, that was a stress moment but we also so shameful didn't know how to show our gratitude to the female manager, we feel we met the best human being on earth. The rest details of the hotel service are good. A very good experience. I would surely want to come back here.

Locate in a very central area of ​​the city, which is perfect to be able to visit all the tourist attractions of interest, the staff speaks English what is very helpful in order to be better located in the city, you can also take a tour from it Hotel towards the great wall at a good price, the rooms for the quality price are very good.

Feeling like a local

We had a night to stay in Beijing and we decided to book a traditional chinese hotel. Qianmen Courtyard was one of the hotels located near to the Beijing South Railway Station and hence we selected it. The taxi driver had to take some pain to find the hotel as he entered from the wrong street. Check in was smooth and hotel room was just ok. It is an old hotel with a typical chinese touch including a courtyard in the middle and room doors have a thick curtain outside to prevent from cold. Beijing was too cold in November and we could hardly go out so we stayed in the hotel itself on first day after visiting the temple of heaven which is nearby the hotel. All in all it is a good hotel for a short stay but not for a long stay. NO breakfast is provided and you can get a taxi from outside after a short walk. The tour operators know the place well and they will pick you up from the hotel in time. NO hot water in the room in such cold weather. The staff says the water has to come from a long distance after heating and you need to wait for hot water to come. We waited and waited and waited till we left the hotel but hot water never came in the taps. Just normal cool water was coming out from the taps.... Would sure never come again here.....

A typical Chinese hotel

Very quaint hotel right in the middle of the historic hutong area in the Qianmen district. Do have realistic expectations of the room and facilities when considering that this is a budget hotel in a historic area, and you won't be disappointed. Rooms are traditional Chinese style - compact, but nice and clean, with A/C. There was free WiFi in the room - average connection speed, though. The hotel staff were very nice and friendly, and they spoke good English.

On the negative side, there were some small bugs crawling around on the bathroom floor, close to the shower. Regardless of the hotel being situated in a historical building in an old district, they should perform some preventative measures to take care of bugs. Also, it takes a while before hot water starts to flow in the shower - the first time it actually took up to a minute or two.

Hotel location is excellent! It is situated in a quiet alley close to all main attractions in the Qianmen district. Dashilan Street, Qianmen Street, Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City are all within walking distance. Qianmen subway station (line 2) is also just a 10 minute walk away. There are plenty of grocery stores and restaurants in the area.

The hotel can be a bit hard to find, but I suggest you find your way to Qianmen Street and walk south until you can see an H&M store on your left. Take a right and continue into the alley for approx. 50 meters. The hotel is located on the left side. I had to ask a lot of people before I finally found it.

Note! Be aware that you have to pay a deposit of RMB 100 during your check-in. This is apparently common practice in China - at least in the budget hotels and hostels I stayed at when I travelled around there in June. Also, this property is listed as Qianmen Courtyard Hotel on booking.com.

I would stay here again if I come back to Beijing.

Quaint budget hotel in Qianmen hutong area

We booked here as we thought it would be a great cultural experience. The place is dirty and loud you can literally hear anyone else moving around the place. Beds in China are generally hard but here was like sleeping on a piece of wood with a sheet over it - it took the whole 2 weeks of the rest of my trip to stop the pain in my shoulder/back after sleeping here for 2 nights.

Never again

Every time I visit Beijing, I stay here.  The place a a certain charm and ambiance that gives a true feeling of ancient China, along with the conveniences of modern day.  I will say that this is not a luxury hotel that most Westerners are used to.  But, if you are looking for some real culture and peace and quiet in the middle of Beijing, please give it a try.

My Favorite Hotel in Beijing

Obviously this property have had or still is going under a few names, I booked it under the name of Qianmen Courtyard Hotel.
Keyword here is budget I sense, especially as the locations is super but also a little complicated to find. My tip, dated oct-2013, is to aim for the H&M signs on the opposite side of the Qianmen street and you'll find this alley right across from those. I had a hard time finding it and getting help along that wide shopping boulevard...
But with that sorted out the main thing then is to remember as said that this is a budget choice and you can't thereby expect it to be something it is not, it is a good affordable stay but it wont shine. The upside is that you will find most of the things you do want to see within walking distance.

Splendid location for a budget price

(Usually called Qianmen Courtyard Hotel).

This was the first hotel I have ever left early. We were going to stay here for 4 nights, but we left after the first. We arrived in the afternoon and found there was no hot water for a shower. When I told the receptionist she looked confused and said "I think you only have shower in morning". After some persistence she said she'd call the housekeeper. She never did, as when I went back to ask for an update an hour later, she looked huffy and went and turned the boiler on herself. We never got any hot water, and gave up for the day having wasted the afternoon waiting for a shower that was never possible. The next morning (after a largely sleepless night because of people shouting and banging around outside) the water was marginally less cold than the previous day but nowhere near acceptable. My friend went to complain, and returned with a receptionist, who ran the water for five minutes until it came out tepid and tried to tell us it was hot, and looked surprised when we refused to accept this. She said "oh, I think the machine is very old", suggesting that she knew there was a problem and kept it quiet.  We were eventually moved to a room with hot water.

We asked for a refund and were told it wasn't possible because they could only refund transactions made the same day. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he wasn't available. After standing our ground, during which time my mild-mannered friend lost her temper after being laughed at by the receptionists, the manager became available,  though not in person, and offered us the meagre compensation of two free breakfasts. We refused and said we were leaving (essentially because my friend had been laughed at), and after more negotiation it turned out that we could be refunded after all. We were given our unused three nights back, and we are persuing them for the first night.

When we mentioned the noise, they told us that the people making the noise were friends of theirs, and it wouldn't be a problem because they were leaving that day. By this time we were speechless.
