They took care of everything - the staff was super friendly, which isn't always the case in bustling Beijing.  I will always miss this oddball, fun little hostel.  My wifi worked fine, the water pressure was good, my room was always clean. There was usually a rickshaw out front with a decent rate.  It's tucked away in a hutong, but that just means more places to stop and eat local food in the morning if you're an early bird like me.

Friendliest Stay in Beijing!

The hotel is good value for the money. Location is good but hard to find at night, especially in the rain. Can't find it b/c the taxi dropped you off too far away? Follow the signs to the Language School. It may say "Chinese Language School" and/or just "Language School". Face their doors. Look left. go to end of alley. Look left. Advance 5-6 paces. Look left and see entrance. BTW, the Language School can teach you important info for a few bucks- how to ride subway/bus, shopping for best price and avoiding scams or dealing w/ pushy sales, ordering food (fork? vegetarian? need a bathroom? is the water filtered? is the ice safe?), banking...all kinds of things to make your trip more enjoyable. It's worth it. The hostels in the area have a couple tips printed at their front desk, that's about it for helpfulness. Oh and maps on the wall. Get useful traveling advice at the language school. If they ask for 50 to take you on a trip around the subway, don't be a jerk. That's less than $10 usd, and they're teaching you to be independent. I don't think any other inns, hotels/motels have cool neighbors like this.

Within walking distance to subways and buses. Hutong shopping and food nearby. Rooms are clean and trouble free. The beds are a little stiff but I actually had great sleep there! mahjong parlor nearby creates "whitenoise" to sleep by :) 

Look, this isn't the The Ritz. You want more- PAY MORE.

This place is inexpensive, Safe, Honest, clean, convenient, the water is actually hot- unlike Many hotels I have been to in the states....It's really a great place. we left our cash out, laptops, digital camera- none of it was touched. Very nice and honest people.

I didn't pay much so I didn't expect much. But they met and exceeded my expectations. It was more enjoyable here than at a holiday inn in my home country. More charm, cooler people, interesting neighborhood. I really felt at home. questions?

Below is a paraphrased copy of what I sent my credit card company after Hutong had ripped us off so badly:

When we arrived at the hotel, we were assigned a horrible room, not as described in the reservation. Leaking sewer pipes overhung two separate twin beds with no window. Further, free breakfast for two was not honored, the hotel charged 32RMB for breakfast. The room type we were assigned was at least 160RMB per night lower then what we were given according to the hotel website . Also, we were told small amenities like free beer would not be honored for each reservation. 

Lastly, the hotel has glaring maintenance issues, including: 

1) A former guest's dirty underwear and socks were left in the nightstand drawer 

2) Exposed plumbing, open Chinese drywall spraying white powder, peeling wallpaper, cracks in floors and frames, sewage issues. 

3) Customer service is horrendous, and we were refused receipts and documentation.

I have very less to say, i left the hotel after the first night, although I had already paid for 5...The free wifi didn't work at all, I had to ask the receptionist to use the computer. At first he also wanted me to pay for it... The receptionist don't speak enough english to have a decent conversation or informations ( I'm speaking french and english and german as foreign language). The location of the hotel is very bad, the street is dirty and every attraction is far away.

Now the room, for the only night i was there I didn't took shower, there were still hair ( shave hair) from the previous visitors. The bath towel was yellow. There were still pletny of rooms with street view but I got one whit a nice view on the corridor. The TV didn't worked...

Horrible hotel, I may be tollerant but this was to much, I'm not so about confort but for the price I was expecting something decent, I slept in dorms in other chinese city who were way better than this...

how is it possible to still see this hotel as choice ?!

We stayed at the Hutong Inn for 5 horrible nights. Our room was situated between reception and the office and what we presume were other staff rooms. Conseqently, we were woken up all through the night and early hours by phones ringing and staff shouting to each other. We had a room with a private bathroom, this was probably the worst feature of the room. A glass door, with no privacy, wooden frames that were swollen and rotten, absolutely disgusting. Barely 2 bits of 'toilet roll' (disgusting). A concrete mattress (people say this is normal in China, but we stayed in 5 hotels in China and this was the only hard bed). Awful bedspreads which you daren't look under. The location wasn't great, but once you know where it is (taxis cannot find it- as someone else said, look out for the language school) it isn't so bad. But a little scary walking to it at night, as rather dark down the backstreet hutongs. 
The staff were neither friendly nor helpful. On checkout they tried to charge us for a pair of flip flops (slippers, used for the bathroom). When we disputed this, the matter was dropped. The only saving grace was the free wifi, which had decent enough signal, but we were on the bottom floor, so not sure what it was like anywhere else.
We found a great cafe just round the corner, Beiluo Bread Bar,and we took refuge here a lot of the time rather than staying in our room. It had free wifi and very friendly multinational staff and yummy food! A great find. 
I don't like to leave bad reviews but there was honestly nothing enjoyable about this hotel for us. We are by no means princesses but we did not feel relaxed here. If you are on a tight budget and disgusting bathrooms and noise do not bother you, then maybe you will enjoy it more than we did. But I would not reccommend this 'hotel' (hostel) to anyone.
