Just avoid, the photos speak for themselves that I will upload - for the price you can do better.   IF you have a western plug they will RENT you a converter - all they had to do was put the proper wall plate in the first time.  CHEAP CHEAP pillows that make airline pillows look like 2000 thread  luxury ones.

Other than its location and moderate room space, nothing would attract us to go back to this hotel. The mattress in the room is too hard to sleep on. The room was also packed with mosquitoes when we checked in on 14 Jul 2012. We switched on the insect repeller provided but it did not help at all. Since I lost my sleep already, I stayed awake the whole night killing mosquitoes using my bare hand. I killed almost 20 + mosquitoes that night. The hotel is also one of the very cheap hotel in that area and constantly pack with local tourist that was brough in by buses.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: You can walk from this hotel to many tourist attractions like suzhou museum, Administration garden, Lion garden, Northen Tower temple and the train station. Besides, a few bus stops were located in front of the hotel making travelling around the city very easy.

A moderate hotel located near the train station

We stayed in this hotel a year ago - April 2011 - so this review is late. However, like all the Motel 168's, this hotel was excellent value for money. It was spotlessly clean and my partner was delighted to find that he could buy street food just outside the front of it! Although it was central, there was no noise from our room. All the staff were friendly and cheerful, as we found with all the Chinese people on our holiday.

Clean and central

We stayed here overnight, after deciding to spend two days (not enough) in Suzhou.  The location is excellent, right next to the Xuanmiao temple in the centre of town.  If the location isn't on your map / in your guide book, take a taxi down Renmin Liu, asking to be dropped off at the Xuanmiao temple (you will be dropped at the end of a pedestrianised street that leads to the temple) - 10 RMB from the station (while they are building the metro it is not an easy walk from the station into town).  Look for the road Pishi Jie on the left just before the temple (just before KFC on the first floor) and the hotel is on the left hand side.

The room is extremely good value (we paid £20 for the deluxe room) - plus a RMB 100 deposit.  The staff don't speak much English but are friendly.

Not necessarily perfect for longer stays (unless you like the Chinese very firm mattress) but ideal for what we wanted and will stay in this chain again.

Great location, superb price

The Motel 168 Guanqian is located in the very centre of Suzhou, right behind the Temple of Mystery, one of China's greatest Taoist temples.

Motel 168 is a Chinese chain of budget hotels with many branches across China. For non-Mandarin speakers, if you want to book in advance, it is necessary to use Expedia or some other booking site, as the 168 site uses Mandarin.

Surprisingly, the English of the staff here was much better than the Holiday Inn, which charges twice as much. The room was small but clean and acceptable, and this makes a good budget base for exploration of Suzhou's elegant gardens.
