I recommend this hotel to you if you like a spacious, clean room, a rich breakfast, and endless amenities it provides. You would definitely enjoy the quality of your hotel stay.

You would also enjoy the convenience of going almost anywhere in town. The Imperial Summer Resort, the city center, the river view, and the railway station are all in a walking distance. 

You might get a better deal if you book your hotel room online. With this discount price ($46 for my standard room with two beds vs. $150 at hotel desk), be reasonable about the friendliness of the staff, the upgrades of your hotel room (the restroom door can't be closed), and just enjoy what I mentioned above.

One more thing: be sure to cash out your deposit receipt (¥200）before your departure; the hotel does not take your credit card for your possible small expenses when you check in.

Good hotel in a third-tier city

We stayed here for two days and were surprised, how comfortable it is. Breakfast with a lot of options, also western style. Hotel is also child friendly. The way to the summer Palace is about 3km away and also, who needs, McDonald is nearby.

Great Location in City, good breakfast

The hotel is probably not full four star, but it offers good enough quality for a good sleep in Chengde. The beds are very large and soft. The bedroom is huge. The bathroom a bit old but decent enough. Breakfast is nothing exciting but passable. The location is perfect and it even has an underground parking, which is very convenient and safe for your car. Dinner at the restaurant on the second floor is good and really cheap! I read a lot of complains about the hotel's staff not speaking english. Come on people, turn your brain on and learn some basic chinese. No hotel's staff in the US would speak any chinese or german or italian. The waiters at Shenghua Chengde might not speak english but do as much as they can to help you in a nice way.

very good hotel

We were told this was the best hotel in Chengde by our guide. If this is so the rest must be terrible. English language skills were zero. We had to order our meal in a virtually empty restaurant from photos on the menu. Result - awful because the English translation attached to the photos was completely wrong. Breakfast offered was only Chinese but luckily our Guide had the foresight to pre-order a European breakfast. Anything good to say about this hotel? -well it was clean with modern plumbing!
Not recommended but where else does one stay in this so called tourist town?


Must try harder

When we arrived at this hotel, after driving from Beijing, we were all very tired. We got to the hotel, and they were celebrating a wedding, so the entrance was full of people, smoking and drinking in the hallway, and being very ignorant.

The hotel did not speak a word of English, so we had to get our guid to translate everything.

As the hotel was empty (we were the only guests at this hotel, 5 rooms all togheter) They told us that they would not be switching on the heating for the rooms, as this would be too costly, as all rooms would be heated. We were given extra blankets and told to use them. It was January and it was -25 outside. 

As the wedding that was being held in the hotel, had decided to also have a disco in the evening, our rooms were put next to the disco, which lasted until 3am. We asked to move rooms, but were told that this was not possible, as the other rooms were not ready, so we were all cold and had no sleep on the first night we got there.

2 of us caught a stomach bug, and the hotel would not do anything for us, so we had to buy some (Weird) looking stomach drink from one of the local shops.

The hotel looks nice, even tough when we were there all the roads are broken up, and there is a LOT of building work going on, but I would NOT stay here again!!!
