Miss May speaks Some English and is a very supportive host at this beautiful garden yard guesthouse. Rooms are arranged around the flower filled yard, and a simple breakfast is also included. We chose the upstairs room with a small living room. Accommodation is relatively simple, but comfortable, hot water was a little intermittent at times but not a problem. There is WiFi, and a short walk down the small lanes into the market square. A very lovely place to stay.

Beautiful small yard and garden guesthouse

Miss May was helpful even before arriving in Shaxi, she arranged a car to pick us up from the Dali train station and was waiting for us outside when we arrived. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need (even electric blankets which are needed in the winter). Miss May really made the trip perfect. We suggest renting e-bikes and touring the small villages -again, Miss May can help arrange everything!

Extremely Helpful, Great Room

Miss May is a nice place. Boss is nice and welcoming. Comfortable lounge, warm sunshine, it’s a restful and peaceful hostel to stay. We enjoyed sitting in the transparent coffee house upstairs, reading books or taking a nap. No meal provided except breakfast. Breakfast food includes fresh milk, sandwiches (owner made it herself in the morning), bread, Arabic coffee (locally special). It tastes good.

It’s a quiet garden!
The hotel is very nice. There’s a pomegranate tree in the yard, every decoration looks natural. I like the green grass and fleshy plants in the yard too. It’s very quiet, this quietness differs from city nights. In city, even at night, the motor low-frequency is still noise which kill good sleep. You can enjoy real quietness and starry sky.

Perfect experience

The service was excellent & in fact began even before our arrival. The hotel owner Ms May contacted our driver a few times when we were on the way to Shaxi as we were a bit late, to ensure that we were OK. We already made online prepayment, so there was nothing more to earn from us other than friendship. 

Upon arrival, she came to pick up our luggage and us, since cars can't get into the alley. 

The interior & facilities worked well, the room & shower room were spacious, the hotel helper was friendly as well. The place was very tranquil. You could see care & efforts being put into every corner, small touches that make this place simple yet special. Our room had a little panda plush toy greeting us. Dried lavender in a handmade sachet was placed on the bed. Even the porridge for breakfast has lotus seeds! 

To convey the idea of less wastage & using only what one needed, all toiletries were available from a wooden box by the front desk & guests were welcomed to take whatever they needed from the box. The essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand soap were of course readily available in the shower room. 

The Ctrip App stated that our room rate is without breakfast, but Ms May said that it was an occasional technical issue on the app & breakfast was included. 

There are many more heart-felt touches to go on about... definitely will go back to Miss May if we ever visit Shaxi again.
