This is a lovely quiet guesthouse within a short walk of the old city. The owner contacted us the day before with  which was a great help, we didn't get to meet him but the staff were great. They serve a really good breakfast in the downstairs restaurant with a fantastic outlook. The rooms are very basic but have a nice share balcony with views of the Pagoda. The taxi found it hard to find the place as for some reason they do not have a sign outside.

What a beautiful and peaceful place! We enjoyed every minute of our 3-day stay and were sorry to leave Maison Suzanne. The place is in easy walking distance to the old city yet located away from all the noise and hectic mass tourism within its walls. Our very spacious and comfortable room looked out on a eucalyptus grove and the gorgeous Cangshan mountains, one of the greatest attractions of Dali. The downstairs dining room has a panoramic view of both the mountains and the lake. Every part of this place is inviting and comfortable. 

The owners, Daniel and Quiao Fei, are a lovely couple always ready to accomodate their guests, provide information, make travel arrangements and be otherwise available. The breakfasts they serve were the best we had on our entire trip. They also run a little French-inspired restaurant with delicious food and foreign and domestic wines.

French, English and other foreign languages spoken. Warmly recommended!

Maison Suzanne is a Treasure

My father and I stopped here for two nights on our way to Shangri-La. Despite the fact that I screwed up our booking I found the hist here to be exceedingly accommodating. He helped us plan out the rest of our time in Dali, booked transport to Lijiang, gave heaps of great recommendations and insider tips. 

The food was great- very nice ti habe authentic, well done French cuisine in such an unlikely place as Dali. The beds were comfortable and the room was tastefully made up and clean. The location was also very good. Other reviewers habe criticized this place for falsely proclaiming to be within 5 minutes walk Old Town, but I found these complaints to be pretty baseless. 

Overall a very nice experience and my only regret is that we could nkt have stayed longer.

Very Nice Place, Very Helpful People

The house corresponds pretty well to the description made by the owner.
We particularly appreciated the relax and easy going atmosphere and the very pleasant common room.
Daniel gave us plenty of useful advices for visiting and Fei made us a delicious breakfast with home made bread and an excellent  fresh fruit yoghourt mix. 
Both did not hesitate to prepare it one hour earlier than normal opening time because we had to go early.

Nice place !

Maison Suzanne is owned by a friendly French-Chinese couple with excellent English. The rooms are large and well-decorated. Good toiletries are included. 

The maison is located a little up the hill from the old town and is at the upper end of the Dali accommodation market. The difference is worth the extra cost if you are not on a tight budget

A delicious French/western style breakfast was included and other excellent but pricy meals are available through the recently opened French restaurant.
