Great place for two nights in Yangshuo.  I think we met Grandma herself, who didn't speak any English but was very pleasant.  The room itself (we stayed in the pink room) was essentially a tiny studio apartment but for two people, it was the perfect size.  The location was great, just off the main drag in Yangshuo but close enough to hear the sounds of the street (but not so noisy that we couldn't sleep).  I'd recommend this place to anyone who has a stop over in Yangshuo.

We stayed there for 2 days during May 1st holiday. I like it for the following reason:
1)  The hotel has great location,  steps away from the famous west street while it's also quiet to have good rest.  
2) The room is clean and facility is quite new.  
3) The frontdesk is very friendly and easy going,  they're very nice and answered all my questions. They actually can help book guide/bike rental, which is very convinent.

Yangshuo is a great place to relax and wonder around,  we would definitely return.

For the first night, I booked a hotel at another hotel nearby, the main draw being that it's 'deluxe' room was only about 100yuan/night.  The photos online looked really good too.  Anyway, after getting there and being utterly horrified by the sanitation issues / hard-as-a-plank bed, I personally went to and saw at least half a dozen other hotels near the pedestrian streets, none of which seemed simultaneously clean and a good overall value.

That is, of course, until I checked out the room at Grandma's Home Hotel, which would probably be comparable to a very well-kept middle-end western hotel chain.  In any case, the service was great (they helped us rent bikes, told us how to get to some of the attractions, etc.), the amenities were generous, furniture which included sofa, small table, and huge round queen size bed all seemed new and clean, working air conditioner, tv (with a WORKING remote control--big pet peeve of mine), and everything seemed nice.  It was an especially amazing find when considering the price: all that is only 200yuan / night.

As for the downside, I would have to say this: there's a construction project going on directly south of the building which, depending on what they were doing, was loud enough to be able to wake me up (or maybe it's cause I'm naturally a light sleeper, who knows).  Also, I'm unsure of how good their English is seeing as though I spoke entirely in Chinese with them.  Might be a good idea to give them a call or email beforehand to try it out.

Last thing: rooms 501 and 502 are the ones included in this review.  I can't vouch for any of the others.

One of the few places in Yangshuo that isn't a ripoff.

We stayed at Grandma's Home Hotel for 2 nights after staying at Yangshuo Mountain Retreat.  It is a brand new hotel, so everything is very modern and clean.  It's in the pedestrian-only area of "downtown" Yangshou so you can walk to shopping, restaurants, and tours (very convenient) ...yet it is just far enough away from the craziness of crowds and nightclubs.  I highly recommend spending at least some of your Yangshuo vacation at Grandma's in the city.  While the Mountain Retreat and Giggling Tree are nice, they are very remote and you'll feel "stuck" in your room /their restaurant every night as there isn't any formal taxi service in Yangshuo.

"Rainbow" and her parents are wonderful hosts.  They made great suggestions for restaurants and tours, and often got us discounted admission to tours and shows.
