- Toilet flush in our room is not working - and we stayed there for 4 days! and NO pail and water dipper provided until the next day. We requested to transfer to another room but they said that we can't and that  "all rooms have no flush in the toilets". 
- No staff manning the front desk which meant nobody attending to our needs/concerns - we need to use the phone outside to call them but most of the time they are unreachable (no one answers the phone)
-  Beddings were itchy. The staff do not change the towels and bedding sets and we have to request it several times before they do so. They have only changed them on our 3rd day!
- Not helpful at all when I asked for assistance because I needed to enter the room but I didn't have the keys with me.  My friend has the keys but we had different itineraries that day and I was the one who got home first. When I called them for assistance, they refused to help and even answered rudely on the phone. They just let me stay there outside and wait for my friend to arrive!
I am a frequent traveller and this has got to be the worst service I have ever experienced in a guesthouse. If you want to have a pleasant stay in your trip to Hongkong, just book somewhere else.

Worst Service Ever! Book somewhere else!

Thru their website email, I contacted this guesthouse via and paid downpayment for our reservation. Payment has been confirmed, they even sent us a paper reservation in chinese.  A day before our arrival, when I advised them our flight details and arrival, we have learned that our room "has not been retained" and that they didn't get the downpayment!!! I emailed and sent them back our email communications and wanted an immediate reply as our flight was just a few hours away. They didn't bother to advise what to do until late afternoon. We made a quick reservation in another hotel before our flight which has a very good costumer service (will discuss in another review). We went to Mei Lam the following morning to ask for a refund but the front desk was unmanned. There were 2 guests standing by the open door smoking cigarette! I wonder what will happen to us of we decided to stay there? No security at all! One of the guests offered to look for the desk staff but was nowhere to be found. We just left after a few hours feeling so disappointed. This is my 6th trip to HK and I have never been as disgusted with the kind of service I have received from this guesthouse. Plus they don't know how to reply to emails formally. They will reply as though they are chatting...one sentence at a time. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUESTHOUSE!

Worst Service!Stay Away from This Guesthouse!

MR. Wong is a nice guy, and he seems to keep the rooms clean and neat. We opted to pay extra for a room with windows, because the ones without felt like a tomb (a Hong Kong standard). The main drawbacks were the building, the miradore mansions, its terrible elevator system, and the guy constantly trying to sell you knockoff bags and watches in the entrance. Other than that, its close to everything, and sits right on top of Tsim tsa tsui metro stop. A couple of notes: being a huge and mostly unclean building, (small) cockroaches were an issue. Jenny's bakery is on the ground level of the Miradore, so there is a line stretching around the building sometimes blocking the sidewalks. (You wont believe how long people are willing to wait for a box of butter cookies). The street is very noisy all times of the day and night, not for light sleepers.

Big slummy building, okay rooms

I have been staying in Mei Lam with family and friends at least 2x/year whenever we are in Hongkong.  Select rooms 35, or 37, 38, 39 for great (genuine) window view of Nathan Road. The rooms although tiny for huge people are clean.  Hot and cold water are 24/7 available, same with free wifi.  The place is just 5 minutes walk from airport bus A21 stop, minutes walk to MTR, and to lots of shopping stalls and restaurants, malls.  Nevermind if TV only has one English channel, or that the bathroom is tiny.  But so far, it's comfortable, safe place to stay.

Great place to stay!

If you are looking for a budget accommodation in Hong Kong take a closer look at Mei Lam Guesthouse in the Mirador Mansion located on the 5th floor (our Lonely Planet edition said it was the 4th which is wrong and made as go to the ground floor again since elevators only connect even or odd floor numbers). You may know that it is located on Nathan Road at the very center of Kowloon at Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station and in walking distance to the Star Ferry to Hong Kong island. From the airport you can also take bus A21 for 33 HKD.

We had a windowless room there large enough for a rather wide bed and our two bags. Room and en-suite were clean. The air was quite fresh and the en-suite allowed to take a shower without wetting toilet (paper) and mirror - two big pluses compared to another guest house in the Mirador Mansion were we only spent a single night. After all, I highly recommend to take a look at the room before booking as there is no such thing as a "standard room" at the Mirador so your room may look completely different.
