We stayed two nights in two different rooms. Both same size, which was good. One bathroom smelled a bit moldy, the other one was just fine. The food was disappointing and would not recommend at all. The place was not so easy to find when you arrive with the bus from Shanghai. But the tickets organized for the onward journey were awesome, as we got to hop on the bus right in front of the hotel. Anyhow the lady at the reception tried to help, but English is limited. It was cheap, so all in all ok, but nothing special. 

Clean room, but that's it

This hotel is very difficult to find. We arrived late-after 8 pm on the bus and the taxi driver had no clue where to take us despite the name & address in Chinese. We finally just had him take us to Old Street as we knew our hotel was there. Then we wandered down the street looking for it when we were accosted by a guy speaking little English asking us if we were looking for "hotel"- he convinced us to wait until a young woman came who spoke some English & was finally able to tell us they were from the hotel where our reservation was -they had our names & were expecting us. We had obviously stood out- the only blond haired persons pulling suitcases down the street. She proceeded to lead us down several unlit narrow twisty old alleys -we were getting worried & even stopped for a bit to ask where we were being taken but she said "trust me" and did know our names/reservation. Alas, the hotel was off a dark unlit, unmarked ally (this is a very old town)-just a decorated doorway. The building itself was very old with plank walls, open courtyard, fish pond, antique beat up furniture-lots of neat character but it has been fixed up with all the conveniences-good plumbing (nice shower) heating, A/C,lightning, keypad door locks, WiFi,etc. It was a quiet location but we would never have found it. Our room was basic but clean & comfortable although beds very firm - basically firm foam pads-as in most of China. The Checkin girl -the only person with limited English, states they have 3  buildings/hotels on Old Street and this was just 1 of them. There was not an actual "front desk" or service at this building- she just took payment in cash after showing us our room. Originally they showed us a room with a double bed, but when I said I booked a rm with 2 twins, we were moved to a room with 2 double beds, the 2nd bed in its own room. In the morning someone was waiting downstairs in the courtyard & walked us to another of the "hotel" buildings, again an older building down another narrow ally, more of a house than hotel, where we sat in a courtyard & were provided some fruit, rice pancakes, fried egg (we're  vegetarian), & coffe/tea for $25 yen each. They did store our luggage for us without charge while we went to hike Huangshan.  We had a reservation at a different hotel on Old Street 2 days later, Xishan Wongton Qinyuan, with a different address which again the driver could not figure out & we could not locate. We finally went to get our stored luggage at this hotel & discovered we had booked with the same hotel! They put us in the same building (perhaps the different addresses are the different buildings & they place you wherever they have available rooms) but wanted to change us $120 yen more if we wanted same room as previously, so we stayed in different room but it again had 2 beds/sleeping areas. It was right over a lounge area/bar and you could see through the cracks in the plank floor, so it was like the people below were in your room- very NOISY! Finally, at 9:45 PM the lounge area left & it was quiet. They took payment in cash at checkin again & we didn't stay for bkfst so we  just left in the morning as no one was around/in the building.

Lots of character, convenient location but difficult to locate

The hotel is clean and has great views. The staff is pretty unfriendly and not helpful. The price is great and you can find lots of help and great food from the restaurant just in front of this hotel.

Great place for hiking Yellow Mountain.

We booked one of the Japanese style rooms (Deluxe King room) and stayed only for one night. The hotel is relatively close to the Tourist distribution center, where we arrived by bus.

The room was small but clean. We liked that the hotel sells tickets to the mountain, there is also a small shop in the lobby and they provide free transfer to the bus to get up the mountain.

Beside these points, the staff was not very motivated to deal with us and often quite annoyed when we asked a question. We did not feel very welcome.

I don't know if there are any better options in Tangkou, but overall I think I would recommend the hotel. Just do not expect too much.

Good value for money, average experience

Rooms are very simple, but that's to be expected given the economical price point. The staff (particularly Ms. Xie) were very helpful when suggesting how to get to and from Huangshan Mountain and the surrounding area. As a word of caution for foreigners, you might struggle if you do not speak Chinese; however, basic understanding (speaking and reading) should suffice.
