The Holiday Plaza Hotel is in a nice centrally located hotel in Jiayuguan - big, spacious and clean.  However, when we had checked-in, the desk clerk told us that due to some government regulation on limiting power usage, the room heating systems have to be turned-off.  The desk clerk recommended for us to bundle-up in blankets to keep warm at night.  However, that was not enough for the chilly evenings in Jiayuguan in late October.  We had to go to bed fully clothed and wearing cold-weather down jackets just to keep warm while sleeping in our hotel room.  Not very comfortable having to sleep fully clothed and with down jackets.  

I have down-graded my review of this hotel to 3-stars at best because of the lack of room heat making it difficult for a comfortable nights sleep.  We were fortunate that we only had to stay at this hotel for only one night so that we can visit the main tourist attractions near this area:  Cliff Great Wall and Jiayuguan Pass & Fortress.

Nice Hotel Room but No Heating

The room was clean and comfortable, if you enjoy sleeping on the floor it might be more comfortable than the beds.  No exxageration.  I could only sleep on it with a folded doona place under the sheet, even then it was a challenge.  Breakfast options here were good and the staff very friendly.

Rock hard beds, great breakfast selection

The hotel was generally pretty good for a 4* hotel. The room was clean and tidy. The bed was very hard which made sleep difficult. Breakfast was good. Overall this was a good place to stay, even better if they did something about the bed.

Good comfortable hotel except the bed

This hotel is OK, but with a little attention to detail could be rather better. Change the beds, which are very hard, improve the WiFi, make sure shower doors don’t leak, smarten up on the cleaning (especially, get someone to clean the windows) and set the automatic piano in the foyer to play well! All that said, service was good and the breakfast buffet was very good (though China generally should start producing tasty bread for toasting!)

Could be better!

The beds were so hard we had difficulty sleeping. If we were staying for more than  just one night, we would have asked for different beds. The room was large and the bathroom a nice size but we just didn't get much sleep. The room also did not have darkening curtains. The breakfast buffet did not have any American or Western food and the Asian food was not good. Out of the 11 hotels we stayed at during our time in China, this was our least favorite.

Very, very hard beds

Firstly, like a lot if others have stated, this is not a holiday Inn franchise. This is basic hotel for the night. It is at least clean. The mattress is the hardest in China that I have ever slept on. To top the absurdity, they have in room refrigerator that was never plugged in and an in room safe that cannot be used because the sliding closet door is in the way of the safe door. That said it all. They are trying to keep up with standards but just did not quite make it 

Do not keep your hopes too high

A basic hotel using the Holiday Inn brand, but I'n not sure if there is still a real connection to the (Accor) franchise. 

Rooms are clean, but the our rooms definitely have been smoking rooms (smell, cigarette burns).

Breakfast is in a big conference room where a huge (10 by 5 meters) screen broadcasts CCTV.

Service is good. They are really kind and make an effort. Much appreciated.

Basic, nothing special, but good service

The rooms were spacious and comfortable but you may be in trouble if you require a non-smoking room.  I was here with a  western tour group and several people had trouble finding rooms that did not smell of smoke.
