I love Yunnan, Xishuangbanna and Yunnan tea. Jinhong is perfect start point city to explore Xishuangbanna and I really liked my stay in this hotel. The owner is very helpful English speaking person, you can ask him in many matters when necessary. What is very special the hotel driver can take you anywhere for one day trip, it is very attractive to explore with him Xishuangbanna nature and Tea mountains! Rooms are clean, comfortable, very nice decorated, very good Chinese breakfast you can buy cheaply 15 meters from the hotel. If again in Banna I feel no need to look for new hotel, just come back to this one. Location also great, this is Dai village part of the Jinhong.



Exploring Xishuangbanna

Amazing location, close to local night market(BBQ, restaurants, Thai desserts, shopping, etc). Warm staff, they provide us different kinds of promotion accessing to shows and parks. We check out on Dragon boat festival and they also invited us to join their Zongzi (Chinese rice-pudding) activity.

Be aware that this hotel is double listed in TripAdvisor (slightly different spelling), and the other listing's reviews are not so good). 

Good things: 
- Lee Wei (nickname Quicklee) the driver, did a great job in driving and showing us around (worthy his 300rmb /day). But he can't speak English, be aware!
- Location is good - quiet, yet 1 min walking from the night market and restaurants. 
- Room is cosy nicely decorated (personal touch of the owner) with a lovely balcony. 
- Bed and pillows are excellent - clean, big, and with good mattress (not those stone "mattresses" typical to many hotels in China).
- The owner can speak English (helpful for foreigner visitors, if he is personally around).

Suggestions to the owner to improve:
- Add a curtain in the bathroom on the open side of the bathtub. So cheap and easy to do. Foreigners, unlike locals, hate to take shower and see the entire floor of the bathroom gets flooded.
- Replace the shower head and holder. The current ones are old, barely working. Having a nice warm shower (and without wetting the entire room) is important (at least for foreigners).
- Add a lamp near the TV wall. Now it is so dark at night in the room that you can't even see what cloths you unpack for next morning...

My advise:
- Before you book, call first the hotel and check if they have fixed these 3 points. If the owner did already fix - then you will enjoy to stay here. If not - it is up to you (there are quite a few other small hotels nearby). 



Mixed feelings

The room was quite nice and very comfortable, but the real star of the hotel is the owner manager. This was our first stop in China and his assistance with getting a SIM for our iPhone, helping with onward travel arrangements and providing some much needed translations made our introduction to the country a delight. The rest of the staff were also friendly and helpful.

Hello, We are a mixed couple (Chinese & American)
Initially, we felt welcome at the hotel. We were courteously picked up at the hotel and warmly welcomed when we arrived. The "hotel" is on the second floor off of a alley type street, so it will be difficult to find if you are planning on arriving by taxi. The first night we had a nice hat with "Quicklee" (Yes, that's his name- if you have never been in China, then you will quickly learn that the Chinese choose some of the oddest English names, but anyway). He offered to drive us around for 300 RMB day for the two days we would be there. However, it was cheaper to get a taxi, so on the second day we took the taxi. At that point, we didn't hear from the hotel much. It seems as long as you are using their services, they treated you like an old friend, but when you choose not to, then you became invisible. I asked about a ride to the airport after our stay, and I was completely ignored. 
The Room: At the bottom of the wall, the pain is peeling and there are yellowish- brown stains on the wall. I checked other rooms (doors were opened) and it wasn't just our room. On our first night, we only had one bath towel. The internet was slow and unreliable. My girlfriend, who is Chinese, said, "they do not pay attention to the little details." The bed were mostly comfortable; a cross between a Western style soft bed and the Chinese concrete bed. The shower is in a bathtub. There is a shower curtain, but it protects the wood, so the bathroom gets soaking wet. 
As for the location; it is in an area that is very tourist oriented. There are some nice restaurants, but unless you really enjoy shopping, there isn't much to do there. It was conveniently located for day excursions, but apart from that, you could just as easily stay in Jinghong. 
Overall, the room were a little small, but it was nicely decorated. They were friendly as long as you paid for their driver. There is nothing I hate more than disingenuous attitude. Muy girlfriend, who works in the hotel industry were not please at all with the service and quality (or lack there of) of the room. If I were to return to Xishuangbanna, I would not choose this hotel again.
