Nice hostel ideal for children with the sandbox in the common area. Great to meet other travellers (if theyre around), only 10min walk to the sanddunes and 10min by bus to the city center and museum. Could communicate the basic needs with the staff over google translate.

We spent three days at the inn. 

First was a long moment of frustration when we arrived as the young lady could not speak a word of english. We spent time clearing things up and we finally got our room.

- Bathroom is so so, with Shower near WC, not the best for an upgraded room. But this is passable. The cleaning each dat is also very simple, not very thorough. 
- The so called view over the mountain was barely true.. quite far. Very small and over s street. Dont think for a minute that you will be touching the sand, you wont. 
- The bed : can we call that a bed?? A wood plank. 
- the courtyard: aie aie thats the hard part and the killer in my opinion. The owner thought it would be a good idea to add a children sandbox in front of the rooms.. that means you wont be able to sleep until the last children is in bed. The second courtyard is better (that was ours): but if you get noisy neighbors sitting and smoking all night.. you get my point.

So we got really really lucky as the hotel was near empty. First two nights ok (minus the bed) but the last night some noisy chinese arrived and until midnight they slammed doors and let kids plays and shout as they desired. (Typical rich chinese dont say anything to kids) 

I consider the hotel to be average but if you get the “noisy” neighbors or worse the crazy kids, you wont sleep much, due to the wrong “courtyard” design. The hosts are mostly indifferent, pretty hard to get a hello but they helped when we requested.

Last word about the village: this is a mystery for me. It is called “sleepless town” and the hotels are all built on top of discotheque, bars and restaurants. We were lucky as it seems the disco downstairs was closed... but i dont imagine if they were open...

Food is abondant around the hotel. No need to go too far.

The dunes are quite near, 10mn.

Affordable but not a quiet hotel, it will depend of your neighbors..

I stayed in the room with a skywell, so every night I get to see stars! A nice and clean room, but on one occasion the 'newly changed' towels reeked of smoke so that's yucky. Rest of the stay (5N) was comfortable except for some noisy neighbours who enjoy slamming doors. The hotel is located on level 2, in the Yue Ya village. The village comes with lots of food shops, must try the chilli beancurd and Da Mo grilled mutton skewers!!!!  The 'Chinese burger' Rou Jia Mo is the best I've ever had, be sure to get it for only 10yuan! The hotel is WALKING DISTANCE TO THE YUE YA QUAN (Crescent Lake) and MING SHA SHAN (Singing Dunes), about 10min walk. Perfect if you wanna catch sunrise. Along the way has many other shops and opposite is a small touristy market selling scarves, hats etc. Highly recommend to stay here, or even other hotels in this Yue Ya village.

Perfect location, great room

The owner provides free pick up at Dunhuang train station.  Although he was late, we appreciated this gesture as we understand the inn is run by the husband and wife.  The lady boss was helpful in giving us all the information we need of Dunhuang. The inn is unique in its own way and away from the town but it is very near about 10 minutes stroll to Mingsha Shan so you can go there 3 times if you wish.  There is a bus no. 3 opposite the inn outside 雷音寺 to 沙洲夜市。From the town, you can also make your way to 莫高窟。
