While the hotel is a good base for exploring. The hotel is worn out. Curtains have visible holes, beds are hard. Elevators are slow. Worst, some rooms have bed bugs. My sisters are itching to this day because of it. We travel a lot as a family and this is the first time we had this experience. There are better places to stay. Not going to stay here again.

Worn out hotel

Quite a large room for HK standard. Ask for a room facing Nathan road to avoid the all night karaokes along Temple St. Plentiful f&b within reach. Try the dim sum at Kung Fu Dim Sum, behing the Yau Mai Tei metro exit. They offer 20% discount at certain times of the day except weekends. Good quality!
Hotel is just off Nathan Rd where the airport express buses stops. Highly convenient! 

Convenient location

It's a budget hotel, and you get what you pay for. If you want something up-market, you can always stay at the Peninsular - I would, if I've won the lottery. :-)

Short version:
Good features: Close to restaurants, bus from airport, one of the Metro stations and a local market.
Bad features: Bed not very comfortable. Not lumpy, but much firmer than I'm used to. Being so close to the market meant that you could hear it until quite late.

Longer version:
Temple Street market is right outside the hotel, but Temple Street continues after a break, so don't think that short stretch is all there is. From the hotel door on Temple Street, turn left, cross the small "garden" (fenced off recreation area with gaps) and keep going... Temple Street and the market continues after a bit of a gap.

Not a positive or negative, but for information... The hotel wasn't easy to find initially - the photo on Booking.com is genuine, but it's of the wall behind the reception desk, and we were looking for that as our indicator. The other bit that's a little confusing is that the BIGGER entrance is on Albert Street, and the King Street entrance was - at the time we arrived - harder to see because people were setting up the market.

I also have struggled with the Kings De Nathan vs Kings concept... but apparently, the hotel did move (see their own website for details) and I think they are actually one and the same. The picture on their website of the room with the double and single bed is ours... but there is no desk as such, just a shelf opposite the beds. This means i'm not sure that we got any more room by being upgraded.

There was a fridge in the room, and a kettle, but no tea or coffee. Not an issue for us, as we'd got some sachets, and we bought a bottle of milk. There were also toiletries in the bathroom, but we didn't spot them initially. The toothbrushes and toothpaste, plus soap, were left on the sink in the room, and the other toiletries (body wash, conditioner) on a small shelf in the bathroom. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by glass doors, but we discovered that there is a blind that drops down (control on the bathroom wall) if you want some privacy. There is also a blind that comes down to cover the window in the bedroom.

Someone said about the bathroom being mouldy... when we lowered the blind, we noticed it was very wet. It appeared that the previous people had showered without using the shower curtain. Technically, you could... the bathroom is a wet room... but as the blind is then very wet, and you have to roll it up to get out of the room, it's not a good idea to ignore the shower curtain.

If you're looking for somewhere to sleep that is fairly central, this is fine, but not if you're someone who likes to unwind in the hotel. It doesn't have a restaurant, spa, gym or any other amenities like that... it is exactly what it says it is, a hotel that is great as a base for seeing Hong Kong. Note for new travelers to HK... if you find a REALLY cheap hotel, even if the photos are nice, it's likely to be shared accommodation so read everything VERY carefully.

We found the staff very helpful, and they spoke very good English. We would stay again. We left our luggage on the day we checked out, and went back that evening to collect it - no charge. (The only proviso was that we had to pick it up before midnight.)

Close to Temple Street market and other amenities

I been keep searching and google and seems like people mention this the same place.
So here my review for Kings hotel Yau ma tei 
You can come easily by AE. It just like behind the basketball course. Overall it right in the middle of the city so it easily for you to find food and everything you need!
Staffs a bit unfriendly. I try to smile and greet them every time i walk passby the lobby. 
80% people stay here is from Mainland China. Oh they also need your deposit when you check-in and the check-in is at two pm sharp!

It this the Kings hotel Yau ma tei?

We took the airport express bus A21 and alighted opposite the street where the hotel is located at, took us a while to navigate as the hotel sign is prominently placed above the many shop signs by the main road (Nathan Road), but you'd actually have to turn right at a medical hall/store and walk a bit more. Probably 50m or lesser, and you'll see the hotel on your right. Well, the taxi stand is conveniently in front of the hotel, that's if you plan to cab. You get what you pay for though the hotel IS strategically located near Temple St.. Please don't expect the room to be huge, it's HKG after all. 

The lobby is tiny, and there's only one lift, so be prepared to wait for it as it moves really slowly. There're no CCTVs along the room corridor, and there're 2 staircases leading downstairs with of course, no CCTVs as well. The security is obviously lacking, but if you're not worried about security, that shouldn't be a problem. 

We requested for a corner room and that probably meant our room is slightly bigger than the normal ones. Our room door couldn't close properly, so every time we left the room we'd have to pull it really hard to make sure it's locked. 

The curtains are really grimy, the shower curtain is rusty and old; and one of the beds (they combined 2 single beds to make it a king sized bed) was really creaky. 
If you're concerned about fengshui, you wouldn't fancy our corner room; as the beds are directly facing the bathroom door. 

There're no facilities in the hotel so don't expect to be able to gym or have a nice dinner at the hotel restaurant (there're no hotel restaurants). 

The hotel staff members are quite helpful, but we didn't interact much with them at all throughout our stay. 

Overall, the hotel is okay; if you're not overly concerned about comfort & cleanliness. The location is its only redeeming point. 

I wouldn't be back for another stay, that's for sure. 


Wouldn't recommend

walking distance to mong kok....staff were friendly...have stayed twice already....easy access to MTR and airport bus....rooms were clean and comfortable...some have said the staff were not friendly,, but I have not experienced this at all, in both trips they were polite and helpful....

great location and good price

Very disappointed with this hotel.
 
Location - Very convenient. Straight bus from the airport. Walkable distance to Mongkok area. Full of eats and shops along the walk. 

Room - Small room. Bed quality was bad. Shower and everything else was ok but no toiletries provided except tooth brush, tooth paste and body shampoo. Walls were thin and could hear doors banging. 

Lift - Small lift and it only good enough for 3 pax with luggage. 

Downside - Got to pay RM10 per luggage for luggage storage no matter what size of the luggage or a bag of biscuit. (for those who check out on morning for noon flight). Although is a source of income for the hotel but it puts traveler off.

Price paid not worth to the class of the hotel; Location was the only good thing of this hotel
