Most of the places in Kunming, or China even, do not have staffs that could speak English at all. As a seasoned traveler, at least hotel receptionists should be able to communicate in English but this is not the case.

It is because of the lack of English speaking staffs, we have arrived at the hotel very late and we have notified the arrival time in our reservation document beforehand. We have arrived at the hotel around 24.00 with freezing cold weather outside and the hotel deliberately released our booked room to another customers. Nevertheless we have specified our needs before arrival months and months that we will need to check in very late. 

Long story short, we could not communicate with the hotel. They do not speak English at all and all they had was this application that poorly translate their speech into some what broken English. After hours of trying to explain, we will have to face the minus cold weather outside to find another place to stay. Lessons learned.

They do not speak anything but Chinese

This hotel is excellent for the price.  I think it is quite new.  It certainly felt like it.  

The rooms, while quite small, are very modern and clean.  The bed is quite comfy and the room has a led TV. The bathroom has a walk in shower with constant hot water and good pressure.  

The location is excellent. It is next door to the east gate of the zoo and only a 5 minute walk to the metro station across the bridge.  If you walk in the opposite direction, it is about 10 minutes to green lake park.  

If you are a westerner, a suspect you won't like the breakfast.  It is very Asian.  There's no fruit and the bread is very sweet.  The miserable chef won't even fry you an egg.  My recommendation is don't bother with the hotel breakfast.  Instead, take a 20 minute walk to Salvador Cafe - it's well worth it.  

Great value hotel with a good location.
