My sister and I chose Wenlin Gardens because we wanted to stay somewhere a little nicer than the hostels we had been visiting to date on our trip through China, and were very pleased with Our decision. Located to the East of the old town, it is just off one of the main streets, has a secluded courtyard and a peaceful rooftop gardens with chairs overlooking the rooftops of the old town.

The room was lovely, and the bed was soft with amazing white linen - a very welcome change! We only stayed one night, but it was enough to leave feeling refreshed from our visit!
 
We had read that there wasn't hot water, but it actually turns out the the labeling on the tap is somewhat counter intuitive... You need to turn the handle to the far left to get a warm shower!

In the old town, but away from the bustle of LiJiang

A lovely, small hotel in a quieter area of Lijiang, near the old town. Lijiang can be very crowded and loud, but No1 Wen Lin is reasonably quiet. The hotel is within walking distance of the main touristy area. Built in the traditional Chinese (Naxi) style, the centre courtyard is well looked after and gives this small, family-run hotel a nice feeling. Rooms are cozy and comfortable, there is a nice terrace on the top floor, where you can sit down, relax and enjoy a bottle of local beer surrounded by a nice view of neighbouring roof tops and the mountains in the distance. Free wifi; a simple, but tasty breakfast.

Good value, good location

I chose Wenlin Gardens because my daughter loves what she calls "snow dogs".
We moved in with Miao and her two dogs for a few days - It was wonderful - our room was clean and comfortable, with wifi and lovely puffy comforters with white covers.  Miao was friendly and helpful, giving us advice on how to take the bus/taxis around to the locations we wanted to visit. She let us use the laundry and we made cup of noodles using the teakettles in the room. 
It is quiet there, about a 10 minute walk at an adult pace from the heart of the action.  One afternoon, with my book, I sat on the upstairs deck.  It is one of the moments that has stuck with me and is a place I can now "go" when I am riding a crowded train for a moment of peace.  My daughter is still talking about the wonderful dogs.  It was one of our favorite places in China and we stayed in quite a few this trip.

Just like home

Okay, so Northern China has the Great Wall, Hainan Island has the tropical beaches, Chengdu has the Pandas and Shenzhen/Hong Kong has the night life but Lijian has Mia, her friends all at the No. 1 Wenlin Garden Hotel.

I just spent a fantastic 4 weeks in China, of which I traveled to various places, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Kunming and Lijiang, and I will say that my 5 days with Mia/her friends at this hotel was some of the best time in China, if not my life.

This is a place you go if you want to relax, have a slow pace, good old fashioned fun.  Playing card games down stairs in the lobby/bar area at night, having some fresh breakfast cooked up[ for you.  Sure its a bit of a walk to go somewhere, but this is China, and walking is part of the adventure.  The Inn is run like a friendship, close and comfortable.  Very easy to get to know other people staying there.  Mia had arranged a driver to meet us at the airport, making getting back/forth to the Inn very convenient.

She even played my favorite chinese songs that I had memorized in the US before going to China.

The views are spectacular, the courtyard/deck at night very peaceful.  My only regret is not staying longer.  Miss her, her friends, her dog (oh yes, this is very much like home).

My favorite place in China

im cycling in china. From west part of Sichuan provience(really nice place to go )  the well the view is perfect but all the way i lived in very poor place. Then im thinking about book a good room at lijiang to give me a surprise. i found wenlin hotel at tripadvisor which i use a lot when travel. it really surprised me at the moment i entre. the boss of the hotel are super traveller we just share experience when we travel and they give me very good tip of where to go and where to eat in Dayan old town. i got to say you dont have to prepare anything of china if you go wenlin. mia okking  treat me beer and wine after we get along very good. i left my email add for then and hope see you guys in london.
