This Inn is right in the old city and is superbly located. As a mature couple we found the Inn excellent value for money and the host was so kind, excellent spoken English (which is difficult to find out of the major cities) with a great knowledge of onward journeys/locations. He gave us advice to head to Shangri la and beyond and it added so much to our already wonderful China stay. A bit thanks to all the staff.

Great location lovely host

We stayed at Simple Living Inn on two occasions (before and after Tiger Leaping Gorge and Shangri-la) and on both occasions had a double room with private bathroom for 130rmb per night. Prior to our first visit we had actually booked a twin room through booking.com as it was slightly cheaper. When we arrived, Charles the super relaxed, friendly, helpful and great English speaking host upgraded us into the double room at no extra cost as the room was available. When we took off for TLG and Shangri-la we left our main backpacks there free of charge. Upon our return we were again able to check back into the same room for the same price.

The room we had was light, clean, had great free wifi, cable TV with sports, hot shower 24hrs with good pressure, western toilet and drains that don't smell! The bed was comfortable and we felt pretty happy with what we had paid compared with some of the other places that we had seen around. Note: Our room did not have A/C but we did not need it due to the mild climate here.

The inn is located about a 10 minute walk from the main (noisy & crowded) square and "bar street". It was a little tricky to find when we arrived as the taxi's cannot enter the old town therefore we needed to walk from the South gate. After wandering around asking people if they knew the whereabouts of the inn, we gave up and bought the local tourist map (5rmb) which has the inn marked on it. In our opinion the location is perfect as it is quiet but close by to many good bars/restaurants etc.

Charles the host made us extremely welcome and comfortable and we found it difficult to get him to take our money after he provided services such as laundry (onsite) and document scanning. 

If your budget is around this mark then you wont go wrong here.
