Went here with work, but will return again as a visitor, good amenities nice food fantastic beach and helpful staff. Local shops for a bargain, plenty to see and do, a very clean and welcoming city will definitely book again

Work but not work

Unfortunately, on Chinese New Year, everything around the hotel is closed. In summer, I think it's very nice there. There's also a golf course nearby. The hotel is right on the beach, but I wouldn't go swimming because of the sewers next door. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, not many speak English but try with the help of translation apps.

Chinese New Year

I stayed for the second time at the Moon Bay Seascape Hotel. Not much had changed since the previous visit two years earlier. As it was not holiday season, the hotel was not very busy. The view from the seaside rooms is nice, as the hotel is by the beach. I wouldn't go swimming, as the water is not that clean, but I saw locals going in. The hotel does not have non-smoking rooms, which may be an issue to some. All rooms I have been in have a smell, but there is a balcony on the seaside rooms, so you can get fresh air there. Previous time I didn't have a problem, but this time it was quite cold in the room - there was a thermometer in the room that showed 18-19 degrees Celsius (64-66 F). I asked if temperature could be increased, but with no luck.

The room is in OK shape, with some traces of mold in the bathroom. The bed is, as typical in China, very hard. Internet connection was free, but the wireless did not work very well in the seaside room. Cabled internet was fast enough for Skype and video - of course the hotel is behind the Great Firewall, so not all Western internet services work. There were two free bottles of drinking water brought to the room every day.

The hotel breakfast is 95% Chinese, with only toast and eggs, and three types of cereal with hot milk as Western options. The Chinese courses were tasty.
The hotel's 'Dining Center' had very good Chinese food. The lobby bar and lobby shop are average. Many other hotel services were not open during the low season.

Around the hotel there are a few restaurants of which some were open and some being prepared for the upcoming tourist season. There are also a couple of grocery stores and a few other shops. Another Western visitor told me that during the summer there is an excellent barbeque on the beach. This time the beach restaurants and the little water park were still mostly closed. The surroundings of the hotel are clean and seem safe, and the landscaping is very nice, so it's possible to for example jog around the hotel area if wanting to have some exercise.

As a curious detail, on one (weekday) morning there were fireworks being fired somewhere near the hotel for good half an hour continuously starting at 5.45 a.m. That about sleep that morning. Locals explained that it's a typical way to start a wedding celebration, and sometimes it can happen even earlier in the morning.

Chinese style, attempt at luxury

The reviews are accurate about this hotel. The beds are hard as rock. (NOT an exaggeration!) But right next door is a giant Buda. I was moved and inspired with this attraction. They wanted 10 Yuan for parking, but I just walked over from the hotel so it was free. I could go on about it, but I'll let my pictures do the talking.

The hotel is big but, just like most other local star hotels in China, now-a-days there are few staffs and superiors knowledgeable enough to communicate with and properly serve the international / foreigner guests. Without knowledge of Chinese it will be difficult to order special foods - like more or less spicy than standard ones. Some of the staffs are very co-operative. A few of them truly tried to serve my specific requirements about food and other daily requirement about laundry and housekeeping. Best wishes for them. Hope the management of the hotel will reward and train those efficient members of their team.

The back side of the hotel is sea-beach. It's better to rent a room with full or partial sea view.

Further improvement expected for international travellers 

A very good Hotel, not much Western food, mostly Chinese Shandong type of food. A very good room and kept clean. The Staff speak little or no English, which at times, is very frustrating! 
It's best to go there in the Summer time, as in Winter time, all the local restaurants are closed and the place is desolate. After Chinese New Year, all the students return to Nanshan University and the place becomes "alive" again. I enjoyed my stay there and made some good friends

A good Hotel

Located in Donghai Industrial Park, Moon Bay Seascape Hotel, Longkou is suitable for holding large work conferences. Renovated in 2009, the hotel offers 361 rooms and suites.
