Do not trust this place! I had a 23-hour layover in Shanghai so reserved a room at this hotel (through booking.com) due to its location--easy access to the airport via Maglev or subway. As I was landing in the evening after a long haul flight, I requested a late check-in and let the hotel know I'd be arriving between 9-10 PM. When I arrived at about 9:45 PM, there was no room available. There were two staff members manning the front desk, neither of whom spoke English. With the help of a translation app, it was communicated to me that they had a room at another location and I simply had to hop into a car with someone to get there. I was a single woman travelling alone in a foreign city at night with no knowledge of the language...I declined.

No Room at the Inn

We mistakenly booked this hotel because we thought it was the same as the one we booked last year, only with a changed name. We were horrified by the sight of the hotel when we were brought here by the taxi driver. We had to double-check if indeed, this was the hotel we booked. Hotel is right next to a semi-finished building, and hotel itself looks rundown and unappealing.

Pros:
1) Walking distance to the SNIEC (convention center), only a 10-minute walk. No need to line up for a cab.

2) Many cheap but good Chinese restaurants nearby.

Cons:
1) It looks very shady and creepy. 🤢

Bathroom has rusting sink drains, shower drain and toilet flush does not work properly. 

Room is below street level (at least the one we got). Low ceiling. 

Bath towels, though I believe they are washed, have black stains on them.

Felt really itchy while staying on the hard bed. Bed also gave us back aches.

2) When we arrived, we were told that the room we booked online is no longer available, so we had to share a three-bed room with our friend, who also booked his own room. I can only imagine if he were a stranger, I would have totally freaked out.

They said they would prepare separate rooms for us on our second day, but they didn't. 😐

Verdict: As much as it is very near the convention center, and it could save you some money on the cab rides, I do not recommend this hotel. 😵

Near SNIEC and cheap restaurants

Please be really aware before taking in at this hotel: even if you have a firm/guaranteed booking through one of the major booking platforms, this house has really customer-unfriendly check-in rules being there to cheat you and get most out of you, money-wise. In my case, my domestic flight was delayed for about two hours (quite normal in China) and I arrrived there at about 19.00 local time just to be told that I arrived too late, my booking now was invalid and I could get a room at
a new price about 50% higher than the one I had booked! This is
close to being crimimal (like much of other tourism business in Shanghai). Otherwise Maiju Inn is a lousy place (dirty rooms, I found quite a lot of hair there which was not mine) with poor quality. I just booked it due to its location close to Exhibition centre and Maglev station, but I will never stay there again - and you shouldn't either!

Be warned - never again!

I was attending an exhibition in the New International Expo Center. The hotel is a 10 min walk from there. Other than that, we had a room that was below street level. The air was stuffy, funny smell, and no closet. But of course the price justifies it all. Still, the location is great for exhibitions attendees. The Metro station is only a 10 min walk away. Staff also don´t know any English.
