We arrived at Shangri-la bus station at 9 a.m. and called them. They immediately sent a minivan over ( ¥3) to pick us up. We got our room within minutes without having to deal with any early check-in hassle. We stayed in a double  room with attached bathroom. The bathroom had towels and toiletries prepared for us. Our room didn't have heating ( need a more expensive room for that) but it has electric blankets. The staff were not hesitant to drive us to where ever we wished to go as the hostel is quite far from town. And for the same reason we had to have our meals at the hostel. This was not a problem as we liked the food. Wi-fi is free and reliable. Sometimes the floor would creek a little and we could  hear some activities from downstairs but everything would quiet down after 11 p.m.  There are mountain and electric bikes available for rent. As the hostel is located away from town, we had to turn on the shower and wait for 5-10min for hot water. Hence it is advisable to shower in the afternoon in order to shorten the waiting time. The place is less than 10 minutes drive to Shika Mountain. Our main purpose was our trip was to relax so we stayed for 2 nights but for those looking for those who are looking for some action this may not be the place for you or maybe one night is enough. There is a cute golden retriever that doesn't make a noise. We could see the airport from ghe hostel but it is not noisy.

Awesome hostel

As the old town area still gets damaged from fire in 2014, we decided to stay at Lao Shay Youth Hostel (2 nights in a family room) which is located a bit far from old town. However the hostel also provides transportation service to/from city centre as well as Shika mountain, just 4 Yuan/way and it does not take a long time. In addition, surrounding areas are spectacular, very close to nature and peaceful.  Staff are friendly and service-minded. Clean room, yummy food and fast wifi connection. They also helped book bust tickets to Deqin for us when asked but you have to pay 10 Yuan for gas which we find it reasonable. Everything else is good except for the bathroom. Tap water and the drainage need to be improved. We had to use water from the water filter and cooler in the reception area to brush our teeth and wash our faces. Anyway, we enjoyed our stay there.

Relaxing place to stay

I would recommend this place if you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of the city . There were the 4 of us (we booked 2 rooms)  , & it is very convenient , as they provide transport to & fro the city . (fees at 6 Yuan per pax)  

Look up for the sunset , I did not manage to catch the sunrise, but sunset is equally beautiful.

The water from the shower is either too cold or too hot, making it difficult to shower, & the water is a little yellowish. 

You can opt to dine in the hostel, the food is considerably acceptable.

The receptionist is very helpful (a tall young man) & the owner is very friendly .

Recommend to take time & capture photos, as the blue sky looks really beautiful.

Oh ya, if you are lucky , you can see many stars at night. Just awesome !

Not much to complain, I thank the hostel management for having us :)

Did I mention that the internet connection is great too ?

Scenic view, a good place to relax

This hostel is located at the foot of Shika Snow mountain， a place very far from the downtown，there are no restaurants or shops around it， and you need to pay them if you ask them to bring you to downtown aera，so i think，this is not a good choice for visitors without a car.

Not a good choice！

Location is not good which is very far away from the downtown, even taxi driver don't know how to acces to this hostel from downtown, no restaurants or shops around it. There are feces from rats all over our bed when we checked in! no water from shower, and spider from ceiling,  television cannot be turned on, no slippers etc, which you can see no guests stay in the room long time ago and no one tidy up the room before guests checked in, and reception is very impatient when we told him the situation of our room is. He changed the room for us at first, but I told him there is no water in shower in the second room, he promised to fix it, but when we returned to hostel at night, still no water and the reception came and took a look, said he will return to fix it. But finally he just ignored us. Which I know only four rooms are occupied in the hostel that night and he is not busy at all. This hostel just ruined our holiday.
