Zhaxidele Hotel

We stayed in the only 4 star hotel in Shangri-la as part  of the tour group. Hotel name translates as 'The Great Hotel of Goodluck and Happiness'. The hotel is  well decorated, beautiful Tibetan designs and plush. Our bedroom was large with large comfortable bed. Our bathroom had Jacuzzi and  shower. Shower had no door. This is probably by design as enclosed space will lower oxygen further which is not ideal at 3300 meters (11,000 feet) altitude.

Unfortunately staying here was not a great experience. First there was no heating and night temp was 1c. I gathered that heating is from December only. Initially I thought there was no hot water either, but need to  run the tap for a very long time to get hot water. 
To go to the dining room you have to go  out of hotel from the reception. Dining room is huge with high ceiling and  very cold. Breakfast had good choices but average fare. 
The hotel is not in a touristy part of the town. Takes about 20 minutes to walk to the 'old town' (Duzekong).

Beautiful hotel but let down by lack of heating and average breakfast 

10-minute walking to Dukezong Ancient City, clean room with heater, all in all I had a ok stay in the hotel. 

The breakfast has limited options but actually I haven't seen any hotel in China that I can have a "ok" breakfast, so I don't complain. The dinning hall is large and cold. 



A good choice if you want a hotel near the Old Town

We had a room for two here when we stayed in Shangri-La for a night in early-mid June as part of a tour group. The complex consisted of a main building and a separate dining hall. The room and toilets were okay; beds were fairly hard with a heating device at one corner, which was standard for Chinese hotels. The breakfast was mainly Chinese in style, limited selection. The rest of the hotel's facilities were non-operational when we were there and the place was prone to blackouts at night. All in all an average stay.

我们两个人跟旅游团通过六月头一晚住在这家酒店。场所包括中央建筑和附属的饭厅。房子和厕所还好，床上很硬，加热器也位于床上的角落。早餐是中式的，没有很多选择。我们住的时候，别的设备没操作；场所在晚上也暂时停电。总而，很普通的经验。

Average stay

I can not complain about his hotel.It was not fantastic but I kept in mind where we were .On a tour, having been to Beijing ,Xian,Chengde .Chengdu, etc etc there were hotels that were supposed to be fantastic and they were far from it .The rooms were large and clean ,I was not cold .The breakfast wasn't great but neither were the breakfasts in other hotels in China .Breakfast here was far more traditional .I came to Zhongdian to experience Zhongdian and nothing  detracted from that .I was met with smiles and warm welcomes and was left feeling lucky to have visited such a beautiful place .The people work hard and have little, I felt humbled by being there .

No complaints

Room freezing cold with no heater. Nothing in the room works. Bed with only one electric blanket for a couple.Restaurant flithy dirty with very oily floor and dirty tables. one word pigsty. Noone speaks English at all. Need to use phone to be the translator.Freaking nightmare.

Nightmare Hotel

This hotel is about 20 minute walk to the old town.  It comes with breakfast but this is very mediocre and English is almost non existent.  The hall where you eat is really big, more a wedding centre than a place for breakfast.  The rooms are fine and we paid for a foot spa, which was just a girl bringing a bowl of water with some fragrance, don't bother.  The one good thing was the girls at the desk use the phone to translate so at least you can ask questions.  Personally I would look for something closer to the old quarter which is lovely.

Zhaxidele Hotel. A bit out of the way

Although the hotel seems good on the outside and displays important people who have stayed there. The usual average vote applies to the rooms. Don’t rely on a breakfast for westerner’s. No tea, no coffee all we could eat is a fried egg with toast and hot water. The worst breakfast we have ever had in Asia! The rest was unusual Asian foods not really recognized by us. A 25-minute walk to the old town was not needed after a long day.
