The hostel is just okay, the lounge area is typical for Chinese hostels, lots of knick-knacks laying around and tables in the dining room. The dorms were also quite simple, not that imaginative at all, very basic thin mattress and a pillow. The bathrooms were not great, one shared shower and two squat toilets, the thing that really put me off was the fact that they did not provide toilet paper, also, with only one shower, in the evenings the line was quite long. By Chinese standards this would be an “ok” hostel, for international travelers it may be quite bad.

Very Basic Hostel

I stayed for 2 nights in a small dorm (5 people). No toilet paper included, I needed to pay It's not a big deal but it shows the attitude of this hostel. Bathroom was okish. WiFi connection is terrible. No hostel atmosphere at all. Staff is so-so.

Find another option!

I think this is the only hostel in Urumqi that accepts foreigners now. The common area is ok with plenty of tables and some sofas, but everything else is rather sub-par. The dorm rooms, while reasonably clean, does not come with individual lockers for your valuables. The toilet is exceedingly small (2 squat toilet cubicles and 1 basin for all the dorm rooms) and has a dank, musty smell. The dim lighting in the toilet doesn't help either (the lighting is so dim that you will not be able to see the colour of your own poop). There is Wifi but using it requires a local Chinese number, which I didn't have and was rather annoying. Thankfully, the small eatery right beside the hostel has wifi that didn't require a local Chinese number.

The staff seemed like they didn't want to be there, even when you ask for help in Mandarin. Definitely not a warm and welcoming place. If you can't speak Mandarin and need a comfortable place to rest and recover after some time in other parts of Xinjiang, you might prefer to pay a bit more (30 USD++/night) to get a cheap hotel through Booking.com instead. Most of the hostel guests were local travelers from China.

Location-wise, the hostel is in a pretty central area of Urumqi. Both the People's Park and Hong Shan Park are a short walk away and there are many eateries and shops in the immediate vicinity. A modern shopping mall is also located right beside the hostel.

Definitely not a good hostel, but no other options in Urumqi

This hostel was really hard to find, it was in a side street and apparently it is not correctly registered in the local gps systems because my taxi driver drove around the area for 20 minutes, eventually dropping me off at the wrong place. There is no English sign on the outside whatsoever. The staff barely speaks any English, and to acces the wifi you need a Chinese phone number, which many tourists obviously don't own. The card to access my room at some point randomly stopped working so I couldn't enter anymore and had to ask them to fix it. The bed was not a good one: a very thin 'mattress' on a wooden plate, which made my back hurt after two nights of sleep. The common area is ok, but overall this was not a great hostel experience.

Not really that international

already when u entered the hostel and u see the face of Mao, you can understand the Youth hostel theory and atmosphere: Young chinese discovering their new frontier and show off their Han supremacy!!!
staff very unfriendly with foreigners, noisy dining area controlled by chinese comrades that do not give a damn about jam with other travellers, cleaness standard very low, room very poor (160 rmb for a double bad room, no tv, no towel!!! and they even ask the 100 rmb deposit!!! for what?for prevent to steal the pillow???
forget this hostel and just walk after the China Southern Airlines office and u will get a very nice and friendly hostel!

racist youth hostel terrible unfriendly staff!!!

It doesn't deserve the name of international youth hostel at all. Not to mention the mildew smell, hard rock bed with thin pillow and bed sheet without air conditioner and heating which makes me couldn't sleep. The worst experience is the unfriendly and rude staff which ruin its image. We stayed there for 2 nights. Unfriendly receptionists especially the cleansing servants keep being rude during our stay.It stated that the check out time is 1pm. The servant already come before 12:30am, i just asked for a few minutes to let me go washroom, she kept shouting me crazy for many times. Already complained to the boss but she did nothing. It's all about how they educate and manage their staff. Highly not recommend to stay in this place.
