Typical hotel in china. It have pool but it is in other building and not so nice so I didn't use it. Breakfast good. Bed comfortable, air condition little bit noisy. On the other side of road of hotel is couple of bar. It depends what are you in to you can go to Gina bar to listen Filipino girls sing western songs, very good. Or explore other ones to find "good time". KFC fast food working all night, 5 min by taxi. Taxi very cheap, just use city taxi, old yellow cars.

Hotel near bars

Lovely, elegant hotel with an olde worlde feel. Super location with a street full of all sorts of bars and restaurants behind. Great buffet breakfast with a range of options (the best breakfast I had in China). Customer service was excellent, if someone didn't have the level of English necessary, they called someone who did. Had a snack delivered to my room around 5 pm each evening. Comfortable room with everything necessary including a mini fridge. I would highly recommend the spa treatments. The price I paid was mid-range but more luxurious rooms were available.

Old fashioned elegance.

I stayed in this hotel in 2008 for quite some time. This year I had the nice surprise to stay again for a night.
Good location, within walking distance to several small shops, about 10 min walk to a park and many stores, plenty bars and Western food locations around.
Good and big room (the view not always interesting), it's a relatively old hotel, but well maintained, clean, with very good staff, indoor swimming pool and a nice gym were available back in 2008 (didn't have the time to check again this time).
Highly recommended.

Good hotel for a business trip

on a business trip, my relatively long term stay at Life Island was quite pleasant...the room was spacious with a king size bed. staff was very helpful & responsive and language didn prove to be a hurdle. no hassles on money exchange. breakfast was complimentary and spread was good for a short term stay. wouldnt recommend for long stay. they pack up their dinner buffet a bit early at 8. the german pub HB with their own brewed beer is great and serves continental stuff till midnight.strongly recommend the sushi bar adjacent to the hotel. location of the hotel right in the heart of city's night life area. bus service to both airports in shanghai starting from close to the hotel. wifi blocking Google and facebook is a big dampner. good inddor court for badminton, table tennis.....good parks with lake for water sports nearby

I have stayed at this hotel on long term several months. The rooms vary some are small, dark and noisy, some are large and bright. stay away from the room that open in on the badmanton courts. The first 4 floors or older (cheaper) a little dated and very in size. The tower have the newer expensive room. There is a active night life across the street. Great Shopping is a 15 minute walk or 8 RMB taxi ride. The staff was good. I would stay again if I was on a in Jiangyin.
