This Hostel is more a Homestay than a Hostel. Lee is the most warm harted person we have met in China and is easily among the top 3 we have ever met on our travels so far. She will help you with everything. Her english is not the best, but with her smartphone she manages to understand and explain everything. The dinner she cooked will be remembered as the best food we had in China.

The room was super clean. We had everything we needed. Hospitality was warm harted and beyond anything you would would expect from a typical hostel.

An advice when booking:
She actually has another job. But she will pick you up from the bus stop near the hostel (maybe 10min. by walk) any time of the day. She just needs the information of your arrival time to get that time off. So please write your email adress, telephone number and your approx. arrival time into the free text field on the bottom while booking at booking.com. She just gets a Fax from booking.com where the dedicated email adress, phone number and arrival time fields and arent printed/showed.

Will stay there for sure if we ever come back to xi'an :)

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here from Sunday 6th September 2015 to the 10th. Initially the hostel is difficult to find, the taxi driver wasn't sure where to go so he rang the owner who directed him to a meeting point. I would recommend contacting the hostel prior to arriving as it isn't obvious where it is. The room we stayed in was the double room, it was very spacious (which is rare in China). The bed was huge but a little hard which is typical for China but slept on it fine. The bathroom is shared although we didn't find this to be a problem and managed fine. The real gem with Xi'an Hometown Hostel is the family. From the moment we arrived we felt like family, Tao, Li and the father were so hospitable and could not do enough for us. Tao is absolutely hilarious whilst learning English and trying to teach us mandarin. She was constantly apologetic for not being able to speak fluent English which is crazy as she was really good. We ate there many times (10 Yuan (£1) each for a meal, which filled you up until you were full and beyond). We have never laughed so much while staying in a hostel and I can't express enough how much it made our trip to Xi'an 100 x better. At the end of the trip Tao gave me a chinese bracelet which I haven't taken off since, I was so grateful. Also, the father (we never caught his name unfortunately) dropped us off at the Airport for a really cheap price which we only organised the day before. I could write a lot more about the laughs and great times we had staying at this hostel but everyone should experience it for themselves.

Amazing stay, don't stay anywhere else!

Best stay of our trip so far!! What an amazing family, our 'Chinese Mum' met us on the street and fed us until we left, rice, vegetables, eggs, home grown fruits, hot dates, green tea, home made dumplings... incredible!! The apartment was clean and tidy and what a great room so cute!! Really good bus connections and a fruit and food market right down the street!! Amazing Amazing Amazing!! Don't stay anywhere else in Xi-an!!!

YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE!!!

The host was waiting on the main street to help guide me. Be SURE to call ahead and have someone guide you! Google maps will NOT find this place! Call ahead and then hand the phone to the taxi driver!
As stated elsewhere, the family was incredibly friendly and helpful. I lost my phone in the taxi, and they were all on the phone for about an hour trying to track it down. The mother than took me the following morning to the taxi HQ to the GPS desk to track down the taxi driver. My phone was eventually found and returned, and it was ll thanks to their efforts. The home was clean and comfortable. The bed was hard, but typical of Chinese mattresses.
We were invited to both dinner and breakfast, and served incredible local, Xianese foods. Though we felt guilty because she always prepared so much more food than we could eat!
Their English was not great, but they have a translation program that worked well. And they provided an excellent tourist information sheet.
Location is hard to find, but once you know where you are it is easy enough to find again. Easy access to local buses and directions on which to take to get to the different locations.

Incredible Homestay/Hostel!

I stayed in Xi'an Hometown Hostel with my boyfriend, in the private room, by the end of 2014, for 4 nights, during a trip we did around China.

The biggest surprise was the welcoming atmosphere that we were received. 

The daughter of the family is the one who speaks english and translates everything to her parents. 
Mama Li is the mother of the travellers. She'll try to feed you and help you as much as she can. Even when we had already eaten, she'd offer us food and say "eat"! It was super fun! Her dumplings are awesome!
Mr. Li is so funny, we had great "conversations" about politics as well.

We felt like home there. It was very clean, and Mama Li was very attemptive to cleaningness and our comfort.

When the daughter wasn't there, we would communicate through the Universal language or through translators! Mama Li says she goes everywhere in the world by receiving travellers at her place. She's a free and kind soul. 

The hostel is a bit difficult to find though, as google maps sends you to a different location. It's in a secondary street near to a busy avenue. If possible, ask them the directions on how to get there by public transportation, and try to call them when you are about to take the bus, and they'll pick you up at the proper corner.
We were lucky to have a chinese friend we met on the road who called them and helped us find the place.

I'm sorry it took me so long to write this review. I wish I had done it before. Couldn't do it on booking as I lost the limit time to do so, we were still on the road at the time.
