First, the owner become our friends, she is super kind and nice, she came over to the bridge to pick up us... Makes me feels like a good friend or even a family. She offer to explain to us with a map all about the place, visit, eat, play... Treat us like a family... I never meet a owner of a hostel so nice... Unbelievable... 5 star personality
Second, the room very clean... Choose with river view woth balcony, the view is super nice...seing the river with bridge... 5 star view..
Third, the location its very good, price very good, calm and easy with a short walk to the crowd places... Another 5 star... So im here to recommend to everyone to book this hostel.... Exceptional Hostel.. 5 star owner 5 star clean and nice room and 5 star location.

This is a place where I really loved staying. I booked 3 nights and, even though it rained a lot during my stay, decided to stay an extra night.

Fenghuang as a town is a picture perfect, lovely town and too touristy at the same time. For me, Xingfuyuansu Hostel was in exactly the perfect location: still in the old town, but on the edge of it. So if you want to go for a walk in the more touristy part, you're there in 10 minutes (some specific sights may be a bit further of course, up to 20 minutes). And if you have enough of bars and hordes of tourists, you can come back "home" to this hotel and take in the lovely view from the balcony.

The manager who runs the place is really wonderful.  She gave up a good job at a big chain hotel and decided to open her own small place. It has all been designed with a lot of attention to detail and I found it a very cosy and warm place. Don't expect too much luxury, but it's all completely comfortable and welcoming (calling the place a "hostel" seems rather misleading to me, I'd say it's somewhere in between a B&B and a simple but fine boutique hotel). Very comfortable beds, a balcony with a super beautiful river view and comfortable chairs. And a manager who will do anything you can reasonably expect to keep her guests happy (apart from having a genuinely friendly chat, she even went out in the rain to get me food; had I known this I would have gone myself of course).

Bathrooms are large, modern and extremely clean but do come with a squat toilet. This didn't bother me at all, but it's worth to know if this is important to you. 

I'm not sure if the hotel will appear correctly on the map... It'sis on the street running parallel to the river in the old town (west of the river), English name Huilong Street, address in Chinese 回笼阁168号. It's very close to Fog Bridge (雾桥). If you cross that bridge coming from the through road on the East side of the river, turn left at the end of the bridge, continue for 100 metres or so and the place is on your left (English name on the sign on the building is Happy & Lucky).

The only less positive and confusing thing I can think of has to do with the name of this hotel. The name you will find on booking websites is Fenghuang Xingfuyuansu Riverview Hostel. The name manager Elaine likes to use (and which actually seems to best express her views on what she wants this place to be like) is Dream House. The name on the building and their name cards however is Happy & Lucky. You might argue all names are valid transliterations/translations of its Chinese name, but it's pretty confusing anyway. To make it even more confusing, I found another Xingfu Yuansu Hotel in Fenghuang on Tripadvisor but that's at a different address so probably not the same place!

Apart from this, it's a lovely place to spend a few nights which I throroughly recommend and where I hope to come back!
