The hostel is located within the old town. To get to the hostel, you have to pay for the entrance to the old town. This is especially annoying if you want to stay in Fenghuang for several days, since then you have to pay for entrance for each day. So it is better to take a hostel/hotel a little outside the fee zone and visit it only in one day. The streets outside this fee zone are somewhat similar. The hostel itself is quite old and unattended. The room was dirty and the laundry was not properly clean. The bathroom was dirty and strong directly after urine. The only positive thing was the helpful and English speaking senior staff. Apart from that, I can only advise where to stay, for example, in a hotel outside the city that is dirty.

Worst hostel of my China trip.

The location is good because it is in the historic area, but here is where the trap is, because to enter and exit to visit Fenghuang, you have to pass the checks on the entrance gates to that historic area and take out the entrance that costs 150 yuan (very expensive). So in the end you have to add this money to the price of the hotel and if you don't pay you can only walk down a street of 100 meters up and down and it's like you're in a prison, because it's mounted in such a way that you can't see anything. The hotel is old. The common area isn't worth anything. The wifi didn't work. We took a private bathroom and it was very dirty and with the roadside sheets. And the reception room of the hotel was dirty and we didn't have a bathroom.

We found the staff very helpful here, especially Roi who met us at our taxi and walked us to the hostel as it was right in the centre of town and hard to find. The location was great and rooms nice and clean. The staff spoke very good English and helped us with directions to get to Guilin, although the bus we were told to get only runs every second day which was not mentioned to us. All in all out stay was fantastic, comfortable rooms, good showers and wifi, excellent service . 

Great Service

I found this hostel via Hostelworld. I am dissatisfied with this hostel. First, it is costly. There are many other hostels and Homestay that has the same facilities. Twin bedroom, wifi, hot showers and even had a balcony for only 50Y. Why was there such a huge price difference when both places have similar room conditions I have no idea. Second, we were given a room right beside another room that was been renovated. Woke up to loud wood scraping, drillings and voices around 8am. We would have appreciated it if the hostel arranged for us to be on another level. There were no other guests at the higher levels (3 in total). Third, we paid for laundry and found out 2 pieces of our clothes were dirty with mud stains. Seems like someone had dropped our clothes. It was raining on our stay and there was only a small sheltered area to air dry our clothes. Not sure if other hostels are the same, but this hostel change their bed sheets every 5 days and have hot showers only from 12pm- 12am, and have only squat toilets. On the plus, the staff were very friendly, they helped us book the bus ticket to zhangjiajie and gave us directions to the bus station. This hostel is very difficult to find, it is in one small alley with a very small sign. But contact the staff beforehand and they will bring you in when you reach Fenghuang. 

There are many other hostels and homestays around the old town and many of which is not available on hostelworld and hostelbookers. A tip is to go there and source out on your own during low season.
