The young man at reception was very nice, spoke English, and was quite helpful. He showed me where to go on the map, organized the purchase of my next bus ticket, and didn’t charge me for a small teapot that accidentally fell on the balcony floor when I showed him. Unfortunately, the place is rundown, filthy wallpaper and carpet, musty smell, broken toilet seat, hard and uncomfortable bed etc. The only good thing besides the staff was the view from the balcony. I didn’t bother unpacking and only stayed one short night.

Rundown

I liked everything about this hotel. It's located in old part, but still far enough from hustle and bustle, so you can get a good night sleep. View from balcony is just lovely - houses along the river, pagoda on top of the hill... Owners are very nice and helpful. If I'll ever head back to Fenghuang I'll definitely stay at this hotel again.

Don't hesitate

I had better expectations for this hotel but it was not entirely what we expected. 
The location is good as it is in the center area not far walking from the main places to see. 
The price is also good for what you get.
The only thing is that we reserved for a second floor balcony and they gave us the ground floor which it was fine too.
Manager there speaks good english
What actually dissapointed me is that we booked with them a taxi to get back to Huaihua early in the morning (at 7.00) which was a complete rip off price wise (350Yuan) and when the day came we had to cross the river when apparently there was the driver there. I told him that we come from the Melody and he with bad manner s and chinese told me that was not driving us (or did not want to understand me because I am 95% confident this was the guy we had booked); lucky for us a normal taxi was there and gave us the ride for even less money.

The receptionist was helpful and recommended places that we could go. She spoke English too.
My friend and I had the room on the second level, right at the end. it was bad. Moldy and wet bathroom and the room smells and feels musty. Another friend of ours had the room on the (highest) third floor. That was was. bright, bigger and a lot nicer!. So maybe, the rooms at the higher floors are indeed better. 

Helpful staff but the room was bad!

Room was huge and the bed was enormous, but the carpet was filthy, there was a hole in the bed sheet, no hot water one day, toilet seat broken, dirty windows, toilet paper holder broken... the hotel clerk spoke no English and was often missing. We were there three nights and there was no room cleaning.  Location is OK. Can still hear the Karaoke, but it stops early enough.

Budget hotel, numerous issues.

We checked in as a group of 6. We had 3rd floor rooms with a great balcony overlooking the town and the river. We were dropped off on the main road. It was a 5 minute walk across the bridge. The rooms were basic, clean and spacious. Not luxury but a great place to visit the town with a good shower and large beds. The guy carried our bags to the room and from the. Is drop off to the hotel. Free wifi and 2 friendly cats. We are staying another night.
