If you're used to 3-star hotels, this is ok then. It is clean, has grandeur, but that's about it. If it's intending to be a 4-star hotel, then you'll have an issue.  Sure, we came in the off season, but if amenities are advertised, then they should be available. 

The pool was closed for the 'winter'.  The basketball court was locked but available to play, for a fee.  That is really poor.  Worst yet, the internet was slow and most sites are blocked (Gmail, Netflix, YouTube, Google, maps, etc). We didn't get any emails so felt completely disconnected and isolated.  Not a feeling you should have at any hotel.  Make sure you have a cell plan.

And the food was bad.  In the Blue Cafe, none of the food matched the ingredient descriptions, it was extremely slow service and the food quality was low.  Perhaps as it's off season, sure, but there shouldn't be substitutions. 

The old and dated decor and faux Italian architecture will also make you feel out-of-place.  It seems like they're trying to be something they're not, and just can't pull it off.  

Don't stay here if you have another choice.

Not impressive at all

The Country Garden Phoenix is a truly dreadful hotel. Its stupidly ostentatious decor (which on closer inspection is falling apart), hides service levels that would make Faulty Towers look attractive. The staff are untrained and rude and the catering (if you can call it that) is truly dreadful. Despite the ludicrous and expansive interior, and the generous size of the rooms, the feel of the place is dark and oppressive.       

I would give this zero across the board if the system allowed it.

DO NOT STAY HERE! There are way better options in Yangjiang.

By any objective measure this hotel deserves a zero rating...

Yangjiang is a small city with not many hotel options. This hotel have a great cost benefit. Well located and very comfortable. Big room and very clean. English speaking staff and very friendly. The manager Ms. Joyce is very attentive. Breakfast is reasonable with western and Chinese options. Don't ever expect that s 5 star hotel in small chinese city will be a real 5 star hotel. But this is good one. Could get 3 or 4 stars.

Very OK for Yangjiang city

Friendly hotel workers and receptionist. Buffet in the morning is great taste with variety of dish to pick from. Clean superb room with large space. Swimming pool, gym etc. The western restaurant cooks good meal. Overall its a 6star experience.

Great place

This is the dingiest crappy hotel you could stay at.   Its unsafe.  The breakfast is garbage.   It all started with a party being held in the suite next door the entire night.  Guest roaming about in the halls throughout the night screaming.  We tried using our room phones to call the front desk.  All we got was static as all three were out of order.   At 4:30am. Two hotel employees in uniform started banging on my hotel door.  I peeked through the peephole and asked them what they wanted.  They covered the peephole and started banging and kicking the door for a whole minute.  As they ran off i saw other male individuals in the hallway.   

The room was dirty with heavy mold in the shower and malfunctioning toilets.   They don't cool the hallways until after 4pm.  So its 90 degrees inside and so humid that the wall paper peels off the walls.  It's poorly lit as well.    

The lobby looks great and so does the gallery.  But its all a flashy facade.   They suffer from low occupancy of the questionable kind.  

Scrutinize your bill.  You will get double billed as we did for meals you purchase with cash in the restaurant.   They will argue with you even if you have a receipt stating otherwise.  

The included breakfast is crap.   We did not expect western fare.  But anything good was hogged by the guests as they pilled their plates 8 inches high as trays were left with crumbs sparingly replenished.   

My advice is to avoid this place. Period!   I'd give zero stars but can't.   

Avoid this dirty hotel with security issues

Five-star Chinese! Large luxury hotel of Chinese standard. Very large spaces in common areas and rooms. Great comfort and Italian frescoes on the walls. The rooms have a terrace and some with a view of the lake. The only weak point: the restaurant. It's frankly not top whether it's breakfast or dinner in terms of food.

Comfort and Despair

In addition to the various knife factories, Yangjiang also has a noteworthy hotel where you are well taken care of. There are a lot of staff who speak English and are very helpful. Cool design and acceptable food as a buffet is also offered for Western taste, the lobby bar blossoms nicely even in rush hour and around guests. Unfortunately not many activities around, but pool and hotel facilities are OK.

A Pearl in the City

The rooms are large (about 50 m2) with a large bathroom and a small balcony overlooking the lake. The bedding is very good. The minibar, with boiler room, office and a hairdresser complete a quality furniture. We stayed for 2 and a half weeks for professional reasons and the storage space is a bit limited for long stays. The wifi works slowly when it comes to working well (forget downloads...). The service at the restaurant is very fast, on the first days, you had to wait almost 45 minutes after ordering. Chinese meals are mostly from the west. Chinese or Chinese lunch are also practiced in the mainland.

Service and comfort at your appointment

I happened to be in this hotel because I was booked by a co-worker. It was a nice surprise and better than I could have been. The one-night rent is undersized than what the hotel offers. Beautiful rooms, wide and really clean. High-level staff is always available. Various restaurant options, I suggest you try the Chinese restaurant.

Just surprisingly.

A large hotel with spacious clean rooms, located on the outskirts of the city, so the rooms are quite quiet, good breakfast, Wi-Fi, free use of swimming pool, sports grounds, very beautiful view of the lake from the windows. There is a separate floor for non-smokers. There are several small shops, local cafes and restaurants, massage parlour. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the intercity bus station.
