Do NOT stay here unless you are poor! Really hard to find, horrible rooms, dirty, loud music, loud rain drops on tin roof.. worst hostel I've ever stayed at. HORRIBLE!  Do NOT stay here. This place sucks!

Horrible!

The staff, Mr. Ning, is a lovely man who helps where he can and is really very kind. But he speaks no English and his son left him in the lurch a little. You can see there is no passion left here which is a shame, it needs work and is very cold in the winter too. The beds are like rocks! And yet we kind of loved it here, met some amazing people and had some good times. Look past the cosmetic and get to know the people and you see the story here!

Nice place and staff, could be better!

I stayed here for 1 night after an overnight train ride and the hostel was helpful with directions early in the morning.. This is my very first post on TripAdvisor and felt the need explain how bad of a time I had.. Through my many travels, I have endured some hardships when picking out hostels, however this was at the top of worst experiences. I arrive at 6:30 am and check into a 4 bedroom dorm.. Rooms are well below 0*C and the shower was colder (hot water at least).. It was raining and Nothing was visible outside.. 

Now this hostel is in the middle of the city, only good for restocking travel supplies and visiting Tianmen Mountain (worlds longest cable ride).. For my 4 days in Zhangjiajie, Tianmen Mountain was closed and none of the staff warned me about this. **crazy** considering it's the only reason anyone would stay this far away from the park, ugh

It's like going to water park and the staff says after you buy the ticket, "sorry, pools closed for the weekend"

When asking only 3 hours later from my Checkin Time if the hostel could transfer my stay to their sister hostel, the staff was unable to understand anything that I said until a manager walks out 30 minutes later.. Still no progress on leaving the hostel, I return to my freezing room to take a cold shower, and the shower floods outside and soaks EVERYTHING I own

Wet clothes, cold atmosphere w no relief of heat, rainy day, and I'm well over 1 hour away from any park by bus.. Just a really bad day

And to top it off, I buy a ¥5 Map from the hostel with syrup on the back.. When I ask to change to another one.. They say "not us, very clean here"

Overall experience, sadly, was very poor.. The staff is nice but everything else about the place almost made a grown man cry (and I've been living in China for 1.5 years)

Look for places near the parks, and stay away from Zhongtian International Youth Hostel, unless you want syrup induced hypothermia :)

Cold, Misleading, Poor Quality, Nice Staff

Placed on a rooftop of a tall block of flats this hostel has clean rooms and accommodating staff who waited to receive us until 4 am. Close tot he city center and relatively easy to get to Zhangjiajie from there.
Upon check in we noticed they use copies of passports as scrap papers to take notes on- we objected so hope they stopped doing it.

Great location and helpful staff

We stayed in 2 Zhongtian guesthouses; one in the national park the other in the city centre.

Zhongtian in town was slightly ambiguous from the outside. Not very well signed for international tourists. It was however a very popular hostel. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Provided Maps for national park. Sent our bags to sister hostel in national park. Bathrooms a bit grubby but dorm beds were clean. We caught very affordable taxi to hostel from bus station but then used the very frequent buses to and from town (5 mins max). Bathroom really old and shabby, not pleasant to be honest.

Yanjiajie Zhontian in national park is a must. We stayed for only one night. Before arriving at the hostel we explored the Golden-whip stream area and the second day the areas either side of the hostel (view points around first bridge and Tianzi viewpoints). Hostel has good viewpoints right behind just follow the path to the right hand side of the building. Ate here, food average. Dorms were cold but clean with fluffy duvets. Staff not so friendly but will answer questions. Would advise to ask about bus routes as the free buses are extremely helpful around park but stop and start in various places.As the hostel is at the upper level of the mountain you have 2 options to get there. Either the Bailong elevator (a little costly for what it is) or steps taking around 2 hours. We chose steps. Both up and down. The latter with our bags.
