We checked in at this Hotel after a day at the Tianmen Mountain and then spent the next day wandering about this beautiful and calm town. Having looked at previous pics posted by other travellers we were disappointed not to have a room with any outdoor space but we did find a small rooftop terrace area that no one else was using, and so we were able to sit there for sunset. We didn’t use the swimming pool, and it looked like it needed a good clean - we didn’t see anyone else using it either during our couple of days there. 

The breakfasts weren’t bad, for westerners who don’t want to eat noodles or spice at 8am, there is bread/toast and boiled eggs, however.... there is a wonderful bakery nearby to the hotel (turn left out of the main door) which does great bread, savouries, cakes and milky tea - and their brioche pizza is wonderful! 

Beautiful Place, Great location 

Stayed here as my adult son and I explored Zhangjiaji (great guide - Gary!), the Grand Canyon, Glass Bridge, Baofeng Lake. It was a very nice, little hotel, great staff. Beautiful town with lovely green spaces, river (birds, butterflies!), and interesting street market at night (I ate scorpions!). I'd go back and stay here in a heartbeat. Loved the roof-top sitting area - great views; good place to enjoy a Tsingtao or Asahi. 

Zhangjiajie 

Simple, clean and elegant hotel located on the main street in Wulingyuan (Zhangjiajie). The manager of the hotel told me that the hotel was designed to encourage mingling with guests and spending time in the cafe or on the rooftop in the butterfly garden (which has amazing views). Rooms were beautifully appointed with supplies of soap, shampoo, and other goodies. The electric kettle was a ceramic tea pot - cute. Bedding was very comfortable and clean. The only downside: small, claustrophobic toilet and shower areas enclosed in transparent glass. Not ideal for families. Staff other than the manager spoke minimal English.

Unique decor

We had three good nights here at the Maosao. A car was organised to pick us up from the airport even though our flight was late at night. Staff are very friendly and helpful, most speak a bit of English, and anything complicated was sorted with google translate. The rooms are good, large bed,all expected ammenities. Though in the mornings when people get up and start talking in the hallways it can be pretty loud and we were woken up every morning this way. Having a laundry was another big positive. Breakfast was good for the 20rmb per person. Plenty of good restaurants, bus stops, grocery stores etc all in close walking distance. All in all good value for money.

Great little spot in Wulingyuan

very friendliness of staff attitude, and good location at heart of city, food and any life grocery can be obtain within a step distance.  Special request to check-in at early morning 5:00am are acceptable.  Comfortable of room bed and design,

Good Hotel to stay

Maosao is great value for money. We highly recommend this beautiful hotel. 
The staff were so helpful with planning our stay and our onward journey to Guilin. The bus to and from Wulingyuan to Zhangjiajie is very easy and only 14 yuan per person. 
 We loved the large rooms, beautiful rain shower, room lighting and pool. 
The hotel is in an excellent location - There are plenty of shops, restaurants and food markets nearby. 
The drain in our room did smell a bit but the staff kindly offered to upgrade our room, no problem at all.
We highly recommend walking to the avatar pillars....avoid the elevator and the crowds! 


Amazing hotel 

We really enjoyed our stay at Maosao Inn, for several reasons, despite cold, wet weather. 

First, the rooms are nicely done out, with beds that are much more comfortable than most in China. They are properly clean to Western standards, and have nice, though simple, decor. Having said this, the first room we were given (arriving very late at night after a late evening flight) had major issues: it faced the road and was VERY noisy. I had read reviews about this, but did not believe it could be as bad as it was. Second, it was one of the budget attic rooms, and the ceiling came down to below waist level on one side, meaning only one side of the bed was really accessible without bumped heads. The next morning, we asked to change rooms, and this was arranged without much difficulty.

This brings me to the second major asset of this hotel: its staff. We dealt with a few staff during our stay, and all were warm, friendly, and did their best to be helpful despite a language barrier. It seemed to us that there was a manager who was encouraging all staff to deal with queries in English to help them improve their English and customer service, and we found this to be fantastic. Once, we were given incorrect information but this was corrected the next day. If in doubt, just double check. During our stay, one staff member led us to a restaurant himself, and another stood out front with us to help us catch a local bus to the airport.

Laundry facilities were good, though drying space was very limited as it is shared with the hotel linen. The pool was clean, though too cold when we were there in wet weather in September. Downstairs is some nice lounge space, and the top floor has another lounge and access to a rooftop area with great views. There is a lift to all rooms.
