The whole village of Wangzhigou was demolished summer 2019. Now there is only one hotel available inside the scenic area itself (the Chanju Hotel 禅居饭店). Foreigners can also stay in the Shaolin Dujia Hotel (少林度假宾馆) which is located in the small village next to the petrol station 5 minutes' walk from the scenic area gate. The village is a mess but the hotel itself is spotless, though they speak only Chinese. Otherwise you can find a lot of accommodation in Dengfeng, about 20 minutes' drive from Shaolin Temple Scenic Area.

Hotel a priori with no particular charm in terms of comfort but with a special history and soul.

That's nice.

It is 3 KM from the main entrance of Shaolin park (not referring to the temple but from the parking lots, shopping area and ticketing counter). The hostel is hard to find especially if you are arriving in the evening /night (after 6pm onwards). We walked down from the entrance to the Shaolin park to find our way but we are unable to do so as some road that we walked to leads to now-where. If you arrived late, you might want to give them a call (it is better to have wechat account!) to ask for a pick up from the main entrance as the walkaway towards the hotel is very dark after 1800hrs (be warned that there is no street lights!). 

We were given a room at the next partitioned to the main office, and placed in an upper room of where we need to watch out our head as the ceiling in the corridor was so low. It was a ridiculous design, defo! The room was terrible, dirty and disorganised. My friend and I were unhappy as we paid for RMB250 per night and except something more decent!! Even the curtain at the room and the bathroom was torn off!!! Such a bad experience. 

Although in the advert it did say wifi is available, but we were unable to connect to it. 

Be warned that there is a limited food nearby and if you are up for a breakfast early in the morning i.e. 7.00am, there is only one restaurant opens and choice is limited. 

We asked the hostel owner to send us to the main road of where we can take the bus to depart from Shaolin but was denied as we were informed transport were not allowed during the morning as a lots of tourists walking in and out of the place. Ironically, we saw a road that separating the tourists walk-way and vehicle road.

We are lucky to stay here only for a night. Would not imagine if we are able to survive it for 2 nights.

Double T: - Terrible and Throat Cutting

Great overnight stay in the middle of Kung Fu schools, in the real village of SongShan. You can have lunch at the hostel, but next door is a small local restaurant where monks, Western apprentices and a handful of tourists mix. At the staff level, a girl speaks English and a young man (monk?) only Chinese but you can get to understand each other, they are very friendly and welcoming. The room is clear, sober. The common bathroom on the second floor (I think) is practical. I recommend!

In the middle of Kung Fu schools, in the real village!!!

We were very welcomed. Among the staff who had rooms on the ground floor, a year ago, they were looking for one that was a little more comfortable to speak in the bathroom. When she wasn't there, it was more complicated. But with their mobile phones, they could access online translators. There was no elevator, we had to carry our suitcases upstairs. Those who had rooms on the ground floor had problems with the water drain in the bathroom. On the floor we hadn't had this problem. But it's true that we had a lot to do with having hot water for the shower.

So I can do some Kungfu training

I stayed one night at Kung Fu hostel in February 2016. The plan was to stay there in order to visit Shaolin Temple early in the morning before big crowds arrive. Taxi from Dengfeng dropped us exactly in front of the hotel very late, around 11 PM. The girl from the reception was very helpful and it was quick check-in to our prepaid double room. Room was nice with a small bathroom with shower. For the price paid, it was an excellent value for money.

Nice lovely hostel, excellent for a visit to Shaolin Temple

A traditional Chinese style hotel conveniently located near shaolin temple Dengfeng city.  there are two types of rooms, shared and private bathrooms so you need to make sure you understand your selection.  Water for showers is heated using a solar roof top heater, so it's better to take a shower at off times from other guests and the hot water takes some time to heat up.  Because this hotel is located in an area where there are many students of kungfu be prepared to wake up early to their training.  A great base if you are just looking for a place to sleep and explore.  Because it is on the Shaolin view area you can wonder before and after the crowds arrive and depart.

Great Proximity to Shaolin Temple

The location is great, right there 5 minutes’ walk from the Monastery, we just spent 1 night sleeping,  and took a shower (water could have been warmer) – that was it. Serves the purpose well and  for RMB198 for 2 couldn’t have been better. Staff are very nice and accommodating. Overall – for 1 night on the road it’s a perfect place.

Wi-fi was only at the reception. With English at the reception was not very good, but armed with a pen and paper, you can communicate the necessary information by gesturing. Rooms with air conditioners. Also there was a teapot with a cup in the room and a towel. The toilet is a fenced part of the room with a glass fence with toilet, sink, shower and hole in the floor for pouring water. Very good and quality bedding. But this hotel is not for sitting in the room;-)

Shaolin!

Hotel located inside the Shaolin temple complex, in the small village above, in the middle of Kung Fu schools. The manager Coco speaks very good English. She helped us a lot to organize our stay. She found us a driver with a car to make all the trips we wanted. The hotel serves in addition to the small restaurant. It's not very sophisticated, but it's right, and it's very convenient. All this mat for very low rooms.
