Free airport pickup is the biggest plus. The house is located in a strange complex a good walk from the historical center. If it's your first time in Cartagena you might prefer to stay closer to town in a more fun area, but for a quick layover this is a good place. A/C in the rooms, decent cleanliness, and a good price for Cartagena.

Ok for a layover

The price is okay for what you get, only the bathrooms are very very tiny and sometimes food gets missing from the fridge. The staff though was really friendly and helpful. Sometimes at night it would get a little bit noisy because it's located close to a disco.

The hotel and facilities were fine but when asking for information about boats and departure times to Islas del Rosario we received false information from the girl at the reception. The lady said we were too late to catch any of the boats to isla grande from the boat warf across the convention centre (at 8.30 in the morning). She offered us to go on one of their tours to isla del rosario leaving the next morning at 7.30 and wanted to cancel our reservation at isla del rosario. Our information about general departuretimes to isla grande were different so we checked out anyway. It turned out that there are tons of boats leaving from the citywarf until 10.30am. The lady must have known this. But instead of simply answering our question where the warf was so that we could take a boat, she decided to say that all the boats had already left so that we would stay another night in her hotel and go with her tour the next day! Ridiculous!

Purposeful false information about boats to Isla del Rosario

The hostal seemed nice and it was a quiet cheap one for Getsemani. The kitchen is well equipped and the stuff is nice but it is terrible noise because of the bar/club under it. Unfortunatelly, outside of our window (i think it was room 18, but not quiet sure anymore) there was the noise cooling ystem. So we were double penetrated by the noise. Sleeping was just possible with earplugs but this was still a challenge. The next morning we talked to the stuff which played the surprised one (i am sure we were not the first ones who complained about it. 
The next day we moved to room no 8 which was near the entry and better but we still felt the vibrations and heard the noise of the bar. Seeping was possible without earplugs but in retrospective i would invest 10-20 000 COP more and choose and other hostal.

Hostal La Espanola

We were staying there for one night and that was enough. The rooms haven't been renovated for a long time and look untidy. Only a very small common area available, as well as a small kitchen. Just stay there over one night or so, when you are not planning to hang out in the hostal itself.

Would stay there, if you are just for one night...

We slept in one of the rooms without a bathroom. The shared bathroom was really dirty and when I told one of the boys who was there when we arriverd, he didn’t do anything about it, so I grabbed kitchen cleaner from the kitchen and cleaned the toilet myself. There was no adult around for 4 days,  or to help us check in or check out. Only the boy who stayed with his friends every evening with the tv really loud.
Because of the new year everything else was fully booked, otherwise we definately would have gone somewhere else.
