As long as you don't mind being about 15+ min. drive away from one of 2 beaches in the area, the setting is quite nice in the forest with 10 cabins spread out along narrow (and somewhat dangerous) raised trail.  They have nice birds in a large cage and howling monkeys which you could see fairly close.  The swimming pool is nice although it can be hard to find shade at times being fully exposed to the sun.

The problem is with the smallish cabins with terrible mattress, NO INTERNET service except in the lobby area, and a fairly far walk between lobby and cabins (and depending which one of course).  They did have some nice, soothing music playing from the lobby which trickled through the groomed forested property.

It was especially troubling and frustrating on arrival and trying to check-in with a family suite of 2 bedrooms and shared 1 washroom, which was twice the price of a single room cabin, that they wanted to charge more for 4 pax ... but the hotel was empty and no other business ... so why were they arguing and giving us a hard time when we were the only business (especially the defiant mother or grandmother) ... we already paid the price equal to 2 double cabins, but still wanted to charge more for 4 people in a family cabin with only 1 washroom.  Made no sense and wasted so much time arguing about what we booked and offers to refund our money.

To top it off, even though we arrived BEFORE 2 pm, they already charged the full price to my credit card earlier that day ... even though the web site clearly states no pre-payment required.  We wanted to spread the charge over 2 credit cards ... but it was too late.  Could have even wanted to pay cash, but too late.  They claimed it was their perogative over and over again, even though they advertise differently.  If we hadn't showed up by 10 pm, I could understand processing the payment then in case we didn't show up at all.

This is not the way to handle tourists and your customers.  A real shame.  Would never stay again for the unfriendly service, lack of internet and frumpy beds.

Has a lot of potential but poor execution

Run down cabins. Overpriced food. Getting something else than a bowl of fruits OR Gallo Pinto (only 2 choices) for breakfast was like pulling a tooth while our neighbors got served bacon. Even though the young daughter of the owner tried really hard to please us but her mom overruled her the whole time. 
And attention: the location ecolodge is INCORRECT on Google.Maps. Correct location is about 5 kilometers further away from the beach. 

DO NOT GO!!!

I do NOT recommend. We (family of 4) stayed in 8 different hotels during our 2 months in Costa Rica and this was by far the most expensive and had the worst customer service. It started as soon as we walked into the reception, and before I had even put the bags down, the lady asked us to sign the credit card receipts to pay for our stay. In no other hotel did we have to do this immediately. In fact, in many other hotels we didn’t pay until the day we left. For breakfast we were told we had a choice of either a bowl of fruit or Pinto Gallo. Every other hotel offered both, plus much more (cereal, juices, yogurt, meat & cheese, etc). On the third day, the kids got tired of rice and eggs and we finally got some corn flakes after we asked for it (the only cereal they had). The biggest problem was on our last day, the Costa Rican family next to us got sausage with there breakfast. Something we were never offered or even knew was an option! The very last straw was upon checkout when they charged us 18 USD for a small pot of coffee and a bowl of bean dip (frijoles molida) we had ordered throughout our week there. I repeat 18 USD!! If you go there, please pretend to not speak Spanish as I felt the English speaking staff could have been very helpful, but unfortunately, every time we spoke to them, the Spanish-speaking owner would come over to ‘help’ us, often causing more confusion with everybody. 
What this place did have was quiet cabins and a very nice (if in need of repair) pool that our kids loved.

Overpriced and Terrible Service

The Cabinas are very cute,  good beds and far enough apart for privacy. Perfect for couples and families.  Breakfast came with and it was lovely.  Nothing like a hardy Costa Rican breakfast before hitting the surf. You are a short drive to three of the nicest beaches in Costa Rica.   Nice pool area as well....But the best part of this place is the people that run it.   WOW  they make you feel at home.

Paradise Found

What a find!  Carlos y su abuela, Doña Irma, did everything possible to make our stay absolutely fantastic. The cabins were bright, airy and clean, beds were new and comfortable, bathroom was spacious, pool and jacuzzi were first rate.  And the food...the food was divine.  Be forewarned, this is an ecolodge, not a resort. Rooms do not have TV or phone, but they do have air conditioning, and it works quite well. There are TVs in the lobby and restaurant if you have a need to watch.  They will even show you where the English language channels are if your Spanish is rusty. They have parrots that greet you (in Spanish) every morning, calling out "Hola, mi amor" and "Bueno, bueno" (and other phrases I couldn't make out). Carlos is so warm and friendly, he made me feel like a personal friend, a guest in his house.  I would definitely stay here again.  This is a great value and a wonderful place to stay for a relaxing vacation. (For the more adventurous, there is an adventure tour company right across the street). ¡Muy Excelente!
