Fantastic cabinas, fantastic beachfront restaurant (best mahi burger in Costa Rica), fantastic people (super friendly and amazing), fantastic surf spot... everything and more you can expect from your vacation. Chill and relax... pura vida

Pura Vida

Our stay was fine we were not expecting a five star hotel….our room was clean and the service was good!  Bed was a little uncomfortable as for the air conditioning was not located in a great spot so it did not cool us off….the breakfast was wonderful and staff very friendly! The owner Peter has a great interesting story.  I would recommend if you are looking for a room and you are on a budget!

Good stay and great food

We had Variacao Mar dinner enough for two but really 4!  Sunset dinner in Santa Teresa! Beautiful setting wonderful food!  Right on the beach.

We had squid, octopus, shrimp, and Mahi Mahi, beautifully paired with amazing sauces. 

The best part of our dinner was our server, Vickie - The Amazing Waitress from Argentina! Her English was amazing!

Restaurant was amazing!!

What's not to love? In the middle of nature on a gorgeous beach away from the hustle and bustle from Santa Teresa but still in the middle of it all. We, a family of four with two sons of 18 and 17, just loved this place from the moment we arrived. The room was ready although we arrived before 12 noon. Dumped our bags and walked through the beautifully maintained grounds to the beach. The beach is gorgeous, lined with palm trees and other big shady trees. There are rock formations but with big sandy tidepools in between that are good for swimming with low tide. The rooms are very spacious and cleaned every day. And yes, sometimes there is an ant running through the bathroom, but how could there not be? Just look through the windows of your room and see where you are. Surrounded by beautiful tropical vegetation where squirrels are running and jumping around in the early morning and you're sometimes woken up by howler monkeys looking for food in the trees of Ranchos Itauna. Not bad I say! Breakfast was great, every morning a little surprise from gallos pintos to eggs benedict, good coffee and different mixes of fresh fruit juices every day. Peter did a great job with helping us with surf lessons for our youngest son. Just a 5-minute walk to either Santa Teresa beach or Carmen beach depending on the weather and the surf. The teachers were great and safety came first! The last day of surfing they went to Mar Azul on a motorbike as they wanted him to experience great waves as he was ready to hit some big ones. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets with great G&T's every night listening to relaxed music. We had a couple of really yummy meals in the restaurant. Best burgers ever and the tuna with wasabi mash was just fantastic! The staff of the bar/restaurant were just lovely and fun. We rented a 4x4 700cc buggy to explore the area. Great fun, unpaved roads, crossing rivers and jungle, visited Montezuma and hiked to the waterfalls, amazing place to be and swim.If you have time, just stop and explore at Rio Lajas, just wooww. Nicolas can help you with arranging this for better prices then you can do it yourself. In the end we decided to add one extra night and went straight from Ranchos Itauna to the airport instead of spending one night in San Jose. So we ended up spending 8 nights here. We wanted a chill paradise like beach place to end our almost 4 week trip in beautiful and amazing Costa Rica and Ranchos Itauna did not just live up to the expectations but was a way way better end of our trip then we could have imagined. Thanks to you all for a fantastic time. Pura vida!

Paradise!

We stayed there with our two teenagers  for 10 days and enjoyed the spacious rooms and the direct access to the beach. The grounds around the property are perfect to relax, there are hammocks , palm trees that offer shade and a really good beach bar / restaurant for fresh smoothies, juices and healthy food.
The staff was at all times very friendly and helpful.
The owner had great tips for excursions, surfing lessons or horseback riding.
We can only recommend this place and we‘ll be back for sure.

We loved this place! Charming rooms with comfy mattress. Nice restaurant. Scenic, rocky beach with tide pools where the kids liked to play. Beautiful sunset, kind staff. Great music and DJs. Close to surf spots. If you’re OK with basic room amenities and like to feel close to nature, great option.

Beautiful beach, lush eco resort

Getting away from Europe after a year of lockdowns and physical social distancing Ranchos Itauna was the perfect choice. My wife , two kids and myself stayed in the beautiful, down-to-Earth Beachfront Suite inmidst Coconut trees... Just looking from the veranda you feel like paradise... The owners and service did a great job looking after us... 
Certainly the place to be... The huge tidepool at the beach is great fun for a good swim and safe for the kids too... The great surfing spots are a short 5 min walk to the left or right..
We'll be back for sure... Highly recommended!

The perfect holiday

incredible place to relax, enjoy and have a good time. Excellent attention from the staff in charge at all times and good vibes. Highly recommended. 
If you visit these places in Costa Rica, without a doubt, you have to stay here.

Altamente recomendable

If you are looking for a place to stay in Santa Teresa look no further. We lived in a house very close to the beach and we loved it so much that we wouldn’t want to leave. Lovely beach, nice and helpful staff. On top of that quality music in the evening with your beer or cocktail in a hammock. Highly recommended!

Paradise on earth

Pros:
- Beautiful beachfront property 
- Restaurant on site 
- Bar on site with good cocktails (but weak!)
- Located between two surf locations (5 minute walk to each)

Cons:
- Be prepared to pay in cash! On arrival, the owner, Peter, will claim his credit card machine is broken and will ask you to pay for the hotel and extras in cash. However, know that it has been broken for years (talked to locals and read reviews to confirm). He likely has no intention of fixing it as credit card fees are insane in the area. To be fair, expect most businesses in the area to only accept cash. This may not be a big deal for some but the deception and lie are what bothered me most. The issue is that the atm is a 20 min walk (one way) and the atm will only allow you to pull 100,000 colones (approx $168) at a time (forcing you to pay multiple atm fees). His advertising/booking sites should merely advertise cash only and this could be resolved/save guests the headache. 
- The safe was broken, as were the drains in the rooms (didn't drain)
- The rooms are close to the loud road and have no ocean view
- They have two large (but nice) dogs that bark and woke us up a few times
- Trash littering the property from Saturday's party will be left to bake (stink) in the sun until Monday 
- Breakfast was not good. We were served warm cereal one day, burnt eggs the next, and two pieces of burnt toast another. 

Tip: 
This can be either good or bad depending on the vibe you want but be prepared for loud parties. RI throws a party every Saturday and Tuesday, expect it to go late into the morning (and for Peter to be hungover and not available the following morning). It's definitely not the vibe for children.
