We had 2 couples who shared the house near the middle of the hill at this lodge. The house is beautiful. It was built with detail in mind. There are 2 bedrooms on the top level with a sitting area and downstairs is the bathroom, kitchen, and a "porch" area with a table, chairs, and a hammock. We loved the house! 

Beautiful house surrounded by nature

Room 5 is by far THE best room with private pool and an amazing view. It also has an Air Conditioning and a mini-kitchen. All other rooms are different and don’t have a Pool. I would only book room 5. You can relax there and we watched Agouti, toucans, green parrots, aras, monkeys, iguana, and other animals just from the terrace  :).

Friends visited us to our room for a drink and some chats. Owner charged us 40 Dollar for it (pool usage) which was insanely high. There was no pre-information and could have informed us in advance. There is no Moscito net which could be also installed easily. Way to the villages takes 10-15min and can be only done with proper shoes (no flip flops). Road is unpaved and muddy. Road is steep, any also completely dark and has no lights. Way to the room was also pretty slippery. Owner could provide some flashlights in the room. Umbrellas provided after we asked, this could be also on the room. Towels for exchanged after we asked for it which is also ok based on eco-thinking.

Amazing view of Room 5 with private pool

Josue was an excellent host.  He booked activities for us each day:  Corcovado np and Caño Island. The Resteraunt that is just below is very good.  The view from the room of the ocean and jungle/birds is spectacular.  I did not realize that the cabin did not have ac, but this is probably a rare find in drake bay. The parking is up a hill and it is a Trek every time you come back. I paid with a credit card, but they prefer cash.  You need a lot of cash in drake bay-most don’t take credit and no atms. 

Rustic casitas 

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Sunset (Room #2). We walked to Playa San Josecito twice, had an amazing Cano Island tour (arranged by Sunset via Pirate Cove & Cano Divers), and were visited by a beautiful Aracari next to our deck. Food, service, and comfort were all great for us. 

Pros:
-Low price, great value
-Nice deck with ocean view  
-Birds
-Great communication and customer service
-Fridge + 2 great fans 
-Window screens
-Few bugs
-Beautiful wood interior & deck
-Nice shower (good flow)
-Power 
- Wifi
-Clotheslines 
-Comfortable/firm mattress 
-Nice restaurant (Tortuga)
-Assistance with tours/bookings
-Clean room and bedding
-Daily room service 
-English-speaking host (Spanish speaking staff)
-Supermarket/town nearby

Cons:
-100+ steps up to room. (Didn’t bother us, but may others.)
-North end of town = longer walk to Playa San Josecito
-Difficult to unpack (no good places to put things). We used the spare single bed to put things.
-Small bathroom sink area
-Few hooks to hang things on (we had mini bungies and carabiners, that helped)
-Drainage from sink/shower empties onto hillside. May be a common practice in Drake. (Bring environmentally friendly soap & products)..  
-Toilet paper goes into the trash (not too bad, just fold it up)
-Pink bedding and pillow covers a bit thick. We removed all of it and set it aside. 

Overall, the pros for us outweighed the cons. We highly recommend Sunset. Thank you Joshua and John there for your friendly service and great stay.

Awesome Stay, Great Value, Clean & Friendly, with Great View

Me and a friend stayed at Sunset Lodge for 3 days. The room was very small but no place at all to accommodate our clothes and luggage. The view is beautiful, the restaurant is ok but we definitely would not come back because there are better places with better prices at Drake bay.

Holy stairs!

We’ve stayed here for 2 nights and it was incredible. The view is amazing, the staff is very friendly. The restaurant is also great! 

The room is great! Fully equipped to have a great stay. 

I will recommend this place! 

Beautiful view & amazing friendly 

I LOVED this hotel.  Even though it was July, the ceiling fan was enough to stay cool.  In fact, because it's up on the hill, it was actually a bit chilly from the night breezes.  The rooms are charming and artistically decorated.  I expected a slew of mosquitoes from the open air bathrooms, but they were hardly evident.  The shower was as hot as you could need and there was a place to put things.  The rooms are large and you're right up in the trees with nature.  It was like living in a bird sanctuary.  Even during rainy season with almost a full day of torrential rains, I was happy to sit on my porch and watch the birds and the ocean for hours.  Theresa is a lovely host who speaks English well and is genuinely interested in her guests.  Her husband speaks less English, but was super nice and helpful, too.  I am shocked that this is the first review of this place on Trip Advisor since it's so great, but the reviews on Booking.com will help you see the full picture.  

NOTE:  You need to have good hiking legs to stay here.  The price for that lovely view is a short (5 min), but steep, hike up to the rooms.  The restaurant (great food!) is on the beach, which is also where the wifi is.  Once down at beach level, the town is another 8 min up the road.  These are things which would normally bother me, but felt really irrelevant in all that beauty.
