Many tour companies use this hotel for groups including mine. Our tour company, Exottica, downgraded our 3 night stay from LaFortuna Del Volcan to Eco Arenal so I arrived frustrated. 
The hotel itself is set among beautiful gardens full of birds, bugs, chickens, a few sweet cats, and lizards that scattered on the roof above us at night. The bugs seemed to run right in from the gaps between the doors and the floor. I unknowingly carried a roach from this hotel to our next stop so keep your bags closed at all times. I don’t know how much attention is given to the cats that reside there so I fed them when I could and it was scarfed down quickly so please be kind to them. 
The shower is large but the walls are thin. I could hear our neighbors and they could hear me. I enjoyed the breakfast but they did not offer lunch or dinner options so be prepared to walk across the street to the only walkable option or get an Uber/taxi closer to town for food. 
There is a fridge in the room but no microwave. The employees were all helpful and me not knowing a lot of Spanish didn’t seem to be a barrier in communication. They sell bottled water, soda, wine and beer and a few toiletries in the office. 
The pool was okay during the day but there is no way that I would get into it at night. There is very little light at the pool so you have no idea what you are swimming with. 
If I had planned my own vacation stop here on a budget my experience would have been as I expected. But this stay did not meet my expectations because our original hotel was a four star hotel and this one is a three. I was expecting meals on sight, a spa, updated rooms and pool, and a walkable location. I blame the tour company Exottica and not the hotel itself.

Good place to stay on a budget.

Nice staff, buffet breakfast amusing as they pit fruit out to entice the birds. Beds comfortable, with small balcony, 2 queen beds as we were friends. filter coffee and small fridge, hot water pressure good. Pool towels provided, pool great after a day hiking.  Just opposite accommodation, great bar and  restaurant, Mary’s Smokehouse for cocktails, snacks or a meal. For three nights, perfect as  quiet yet close to attractions and parking on sige.

The lady Laura was very cute and dismissive . The rooms were not equipped with basics. Our coffeemaker was kept with no tea bags or coffee.  U have to buy it! We managed to get Exoticca to ask her to give it to us.  The glasses and ice pail is kept in the toilet area opp the pot!  One of the rooms leaked every time it rained.  The pool was not maintained and the path to our villa had potholes so our suitcases got damaged at the wheels trying to drag it.  No help to lug suitcases.  No phone in the room.  U either have to walk back and forth in the sun or get their WhatsApp number and send a message.  Breakfast was a joke.  They don’t want to keep any food out. Kept saying it was over, and yet we told them we were 6 of us and they did nothing.  After a while another group came in and a full breakfast was magically brought out!   The landscaping and flowers and plants are beautiful!   The place is quiet and serene but We will NEVER stay here or recommend it to anyone.

Eco Arenal villas

From the moment we arrived the concierge was helpful. She showed us a map of everything local to us. Breakfast was served 7-9am. The restaurant only provided dinner for big tour groups which was fine because she pointed us to a restaurant that we could walk right across the street to have food and drinks. The downtown area is about 5 minutes away so you can easily visit souvenir shops, pharmacies, markets, and other food places. The room we stayed in had AC, comfortable beds, clean linens, and a beautiful bathroom with a private shower and private toilet (both had doors). Every day someone came in, made our beds, and replaced our towels. All of the staff were kind and friendly. There are so many activities to do local to this area. I would definitely stay here again. La fortuna waterfalls are a short drive away and are wonderful!

Great stay

Pool was disgusting, only cleaned after a couple more tourist buses arrived. Breakfast was ok but no other meals available. Staff were very friendly and helpful, showing us where there was a sloth sleeping in the grounds. There was a "grille and barbecue" restaurant opposite with no barbecue on. Not great, especially for veggies. 20 minute walk or 5$ cab into La fortuna, which was a lively buzzing place to eat

Bit shabby

Poorly constructed, i e base boards did not meet at corners. Amenities not well thought out, i e. poor lighting, no reading light. Food mediocre, at best, although small green smoothie was good. Had to endure construction noise from 6 am to 9 pm. The water was shut off at 7 am without notice.

Very disappointing.

We loved our time at this lovely place! The gardens and flowers are breathtaking and alive with birds of all kinds. The pool is clean, the water temperature perfect and the lounge chairs just waiting for a relaxing rest. The free breakfast is fresh and delicious, and is served in a lovely outdoor dining area with views of the gardens. 

The rooms are located in small free-standing lodges, and are clean, comfortable and quiet. The beds are comfortable -- not too hard or too soft. We had our own private little patio with table and chairs where we could unwind after a day of exploring. We made use of the refrigerator and coffee pot. (Coffee can be purchased at the hotel office for $4 for a 2-day supply.)

The location is just outside La Fortuna, so it's quiet and easy to park, yet is convenient to drive into town or to any of the surrounding attractions, including the Arenal Volcano and hot springs. The owner helped us book a trip to a local hot spring as well. All in all, a relaxing and lovely escape from the teeming tourist scene of La Fortuna.

A Little Oasis Just Outside La Fortuna

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The staff were very lovely, and the rooms clean. It was about a 20 minute walk from the downtown area, and many restaurants. The rooms were spacious and clean, with satellite tv.  The grounds had a pool and beautiful plants everywhere.

Large, clean rooms and a pool

Nice hotel in beautiful grounds but room a bit basic. Bed a bit hard. Staff were great. Breakfast looked basic but a lot of choice and quite good. Loved the chickens roaming around us. Pool bit but didn’t look as clean as it should didn’t go in. Shame building site (new accommodation block) next door but no work going on so wasn’t a problem, just didn’t look great.

Decent place just outside of La Fortuna town

This is a comfortable place to sleep, shower and have breakfast while exploring the area by car.  We didn't use the pool or spend much other time there.  For more luxury we got day passes for Springs Resort.   We did enjoy having drinks and cigars on the patio at night.  TV didn't work at first but was repaired upon our request.  The shower gets hots right around the time you are done showering.  

I'm not sure if breakfast was supposed to be all you can eat like in the US or not, but they obliged us albeit with strange looks when we requested more eggs, more fruit, or grabbed another carafe of coffee. We're low carb, so we skipped the pico de gallo and pancakes which also garnered some strange looks.  Even though there was no one else there, they were strict about the right number of people at the right sized table.  This was an issue because some of the breakfast tables had tiny bugs (termites?) on them and some didn't.
