This is one of the better hostels in La Fortuna. All rooms have warm water, the rooms are clean, quiet and some even have a small kitchen. The staff/family which runs this hostel is very friendly and helpful. The price of USD 25 for the room is very fair.

Nice stay in La Fortuna

Everything outside and inside the structure is a mess; dirty, smelly, with stuff piled up everywhere. We were so "lucky" to have the best room; a room that smelled of cat's urine. The fan was broken, so was the air conditioning and the main light didn't work. The pillow were smelly. Breakfast is poor, if you have the chance to have it. In fact the day we finally left, the owner didn't show up even if he was supposed to serve breakfast starting from 7:30. We were in a hurry, and we've been stuck for 45 minutes locked inside the structure, since nobody of the staff was there and the main doors and gates were locked. Finally we found a way out and decided to leave (the bill was prepaid, of course) and had breakfast elsewhere. Worst experience ever, just don't go.

Worst experience ever. Creepy...

Stayed here for a night because of the recommendation from Lonely Planet. I would not recommend this place to a friend, much less a stranger. We started our stay starving so we asked if we could eat dinner when arriving around 6:30 pm. The owner said yes but to order quickly because the cook wanted to go home even though the restaurant should be open until 8:00. After we ordered he said he hoped the cook wouldn't kill him putting in the order and added, "She's on her period, so who knows". This probably should have tipped us off but we stayed the night. The room was okay but of my entire 11 day stay in Costa Rica, this was the only one I was nervous about sleeping in the bed. The room was dirty, only one light worked in the room, the remote was broken, and the sink was repaired with silly putty.  Needless to say we left quickly in the morning but not before the owner served us two broken eggs for our included "breakfast". The owner was friendly in his own way but clearly would rather be doing something other than serving his guests.
