This is definitely the most luxurious place to stay in Pavones!  We stayed in the Jungle Room for 7 nights.  Michael, the manager, was very personable and hospitable.  He knows the ins and outs of Pavone, which was great!  He gave us his phone number were able to text him whenever we had questions, which was also very helpful!   He arranged a horseback riding tour for us of the beautiful beach and jungle!  We also surfed amazing waves for a few days.  There is a great surf shop in town - $15/day for a board.

The location was kind of good and bad.  We walked around Pavones the first 3 days, and rented a Quad for the other 3 days for $40/day.  After 3 days of walking up and down a pretty big hill to get to and from Castillo, we were happy to have the Quad.  I would suggest getting a quad the entire time you're there, it's worth it!  Also, If you want to stay steps away from the beach - this probably isn't the best place for you, it's a good 10 minute walk to the beach.  The view from the top of the castle was really beautiful!  We saw monkeys, toucans and macaws.

Apparently when the surf is good, Pavones is packed!  I guess the busy season is March - August.  We came in February, so we had Castillo to ourselves for most of our time.  Again, there was good and bad about that, too.  It was definitely quiet, and we got to know Negra, the woman who cooked us breakfast, very well - loved her!  But the down side to staying here during the slower season is that the kitchen isn't open for lunch and dinner.  We had to walk/drive back into town to find food.  Most nights we just wanted to relax at the Castle and wished we could eat food there.  Also, since we were the only ones there the bar wasn't really open in the evenings.  I'm sure we could have asked Michael to keep it open for us, but we didn't want to really bother with that.  It wasn't a big deal, we just got beer and wine from the market and relaxed on our balcony.

If you like activity and people, figure out when the surf is good and go to Pavones then.

If you like the quiet and don't really like people, go during the slower season.

Wonderfully Managed!

Beautiful spot. May need a 4x4 during the rain season because if the steep dirty road. The best place to stay in the area. Highly recommend. Staff is kind and helpful. Room is comfortable and spacious. Everything well maintained.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed the place very much! The reason I wouldn't go back there because the hotel is located at the top of a pretty steep hill and going up and down couple of times a day for lunch and dinner, when it's either blistering hot and muggy or rainy is not much fun, unless you have a car or ATV. It is a gravel road and when you going out after dark, you have to make sure that you have a flashlight because there are no street lights and it's pitch dark. Otherwise hotel is quite lovely and the stuff is friendly and helpful.

Beautiful place but....

The Castillo is hands down the best place to stay in Pavones. You get all the amenities you'd expect from a luxury b&b while still experiencing the unique surroundings. I suggest the Aves room, two of its walls are glass and surrounded by jungle. It is truly one of a kind!

My favorite place in Pavones

First off I'd like to say this place was amazing! Great room with a beautiful view . The staff is very friendly. No complaints at all ! 
However it is little ways sways from the surf 🌴🏄 So if your planning to stay there make sure you have your own transportation.
Other than that I give it a 5 star rating 🌴🏄😎🌻🐬
